Twiglett, on the messageboard of the JP site, there is a post called "JP Steps", posted back in May 2003.

I found these steps really useful when I was helping my son with his reading. They tell you what to teach and in what order.

I only stumbled across them by accident but always try to mention them because they were so very useful.

There is a JP handbook in my local bookshop - quite expensive, about £20, but is done to be photocopiable.

The handbook is equally teacher- and parent-friendly - it't not specifically made as a teacher resource.

I can detail all the sounds here for you if you want, although it's hard to do it through text - much easier to speak it, so I might make it seem a bit more complicated than it is just to make sure it is all explained thoroughly... I'll let you say whether you are interested before I launch into it!

What do you mean by the symbols?

There is a parent's leaflet you can download from the JP site that covers what I wanted to know really .. the order that letters are learnt in, what the different sounds are, and the actions (not symbols) so thanks for the offer catflap but I think I've got what I needed so far
