Anybody else's Reception child turned into an absolute horror?

And how are you dealing with it?

We're in our 3rd full week and dd is being pretty hideous. I think she's fine when she's as school, though her teacher hasn't been in yet this week, so I haven't been able to check.

We're having constant tantrums, screaming at the slightest thing, 'No' to everything, aaaaarrgh! She had a friend to play yesterday who doesn't start school till January and who's feeling a bit left out as most of her friends started now and she was so excited and dd was horrid. I think lot of it was aggravated by ds2 (2.7) but I had to put dd on the stairs three times and her poor friend kept being left on her own because dd was having a paddy!

Please tell me she'll adapt soon. It's only two years since ds1 did this and I think he took a little while to settle and adjust, but I don't think he was this bad! I'm trying to make some allowances with her and handle her gently, but I'm starting to feel I need to be a bit firmer and remind her what is and isn't acceptable.

How about you? Or am I alone?!

My son has just gone into year 3 and when he gets home he is horrid... whinnes, won't do as he's told, and his latest reply when I ask him to do things is 'you can't make me' [gasp emoticon]

I know he's good at school as he got a certificate in assembly for working hard, listening well, and always being cheerful!!!

I'm just trying to stay firm but kind... and he's got till half term till he's got to snap out of it... then what... who knows...

Ha ha ha ha ha! Thanks Furball! I'm not alone then!

That laughter was hysterical, and not in a good way. Have now read two other threads and don't feel so lonely! Deep breath...

Rummum my 4 yo DS1 says that to me already, I dread to think what he'll be like as a teenager!

He started reception 3 weeks ago but was on half days for 2 weeks, last week he started full time and on Thursday he was diagnosed with impetigo and hasn't been back since BUT when he does go back I'm expecting similar behaviour.
