Has anyone been involved in school Christmas Fayres? Any ideas for stalls / games - basically anything different that may interest people to part with money and raise funds for the school!
Thanks!

Liked the idea of getting each pupil to fill a paper bag to return to sell at the fair. Dont seem to come cross to many paper bags nowadays. Was thinking about supplying a bag for each child. Anyone know how to get hold of 200 odd paper bags dirt cheap?

Ds's school uses any plastic container to give out - such as margarine tubs etc, asking kids to fill them with goodies. Then when it's returned filled, they transfer the things into large clear plastic cups and cover the top with clingfilm. They run it like a tombola stall with a guaranteed prize each go.

Hi

Brown bags work wonders. We got ours from a local cash and carry. It supplies shops and suchlike, really very cheap.

Justmummy...or indeed anyone else...I have volunteerd to make your brillitant idea of the reindeer food for our Christmas fair, I just wondered how much "food" you put in, what size your muslin was, how much the muslin and food cost and how you did your labels...basically TELL ME EVERYTHING!. I was thinking of doing it in small plastic food bags and putting a shiny ribbon around the next...is this too trashy. Hopefully I will be able to go to Hobbycraft tommorrow to get some bits and the pet shop but dont really know how much to buy...Im guessing enough for 100 bags. Help me because Im useless and its the first thing I have done for the PTA and dont want to look like a cretin.

Sorry can't help you with too many details - not actually made any of the reindeer food, just buy some each year. There's probably about 2 or 3 tablespoons of food in each parcel - enough for a few sprinkles by little hands. I'm sure bags would be fine with shiny ribbon. If i remember correctly the tags are just made from card cut around with pinking shears and with a hole with the ribbon thread through it. They just have basic instructions to ensure the child sprinkles the food for Santa's reindeer on xmas eve. Make sure each parcel has plenty of glitter - this is the really magical bit. It's lovely seeing it sparkle on the grass and tell kids it helps Santa find his way.

Reindeer food poem is here with another idea of how you can make it

I wouldn't put glitter in the reindeer food - use sugar which is biodegradable and won't harm any animals that may eat it. I add food colouring to sugar and then break it back up into crystals.

We have dyed loads of sand and have little plastic bottles for them to fill and decorate with eyes and noses.

Raffles are always good.

Guess the weight of the cake.

How many sweets in the jar.
