To those whose child has just started playgroup - do you get any feedback?

dd1 started playgroup a few weeks ago and apart from a few tears, now runs in fine.

But I don't know what she does all day, does she read, paint, draw, whatever. She tells me what snacks and drinks they have had, no word from the carers.

Is this normal? I have no experience of nurseries as she is with my MIL when I work, but I am not expecting an essay each day, just some sort of feedback from the people that work there.

Also, yesterday she was sent out holding a carrier bag with her soiled clothes in (had an accident, bless) but nobody mentioned anything to my MIL who collected her, dd1 told her herself. Again, is this normal? Should they have said what happened?

Please tell me if you think I am an old clucky hen mother who needs to get a grip.

Hm feedback, it never even occurred to me to wait for the carers to tell me, i just put myself forward and ask. (in a non confontational way).
DS only goes for 2.5 hrs twice a week so not a huge amount can happen in that time.
The first day to my surprise, the main lady who runs it told me that ds only had a little bit of milk at snack time and so may be thirsty when he gets home. I took that as my cue to ask further.
The staff are so lovely and so open that i certainly dont feel like a pain in the arse....although i bet i am.
Hohum!

Ask them! Seriously, I would not speak to a soul about dd if I didn't ask the occasional "So has she been OK then?". Other than that I rely on dd to tell me, which can be a bit tricky when she's tired so I am blissfully unaware of what is going on at pre-school also .

Sorry, posts crossed, Donbean.

Ok. I did ask them the first week, but they just said 'yes fine'.

Am being paranoid mum aren't I?

Sigh. God help me at school.

Take your point rummum.
I'd still like to be told 'oh, she loved doing this this morning'...that kind of thing.

Haha, Olive, yes, just you wait! .

OO, my ds3 started last week (but only twice a week for two hours so not there as long as your dd seems to be) and no, I haven't had any feedback yet. I am trying to think it is early days yet and if there was a problem, they would let me know, but I can't help but compare it with the playgroup two of my others went to, where they would definitely have said something by now. I also had the carrier bag with wet clothes presented wordlessly to me yesterday, but only after I had gone out the door and realised ds was in different clothes to the ones I sent him in. I would like to know if he wet himself while tryng to get on the loo, or if he just did it whee he played. But I am trying to stay cool at the moment.

yes LM, it is the peeing the pants incident that gets me too. MIL noticed the clothes and was shocked that noone had mentioned it. But in her day (lol) it was different etc.

Most playgroups have a pretty standard routine that they do each session (not that it varies that much from one playgroup to another, anyway), with some variations, this should be printed out on paper somewhere for you too look at.

I would just ask what they did, although I take DD in so I can see how the tables are laid out to start with, anyway.
