Just dropped ds off at play school and was persuading him to stay (because it is good for his social development...blah blah blah, BUT more importantly i have got things to do....)
And there was a huge lump of the stuff and it was warm... now, why is this, how is it made?
I didnt want to ask and seem like a complete play doh f**kwit!

They must have made a fresh batch - flour, salt and oil are heated together until makes a nice elastic soft goo. Might be worth searching archives for recipes if no one pops one on here soon. Once you have your basic recipe it is nice to add a few drops of safe essential oils as the chidlren love playing with it. I made a batch a month ago or so with a pale green colour and scented it with lime and lavener oil. It was so lovely. Our playgroup also does one with baby lotion in and colours it pale pink - really lovely to touch.
Sorry I don?t have recipes to hand. If nothing comes up and I have a moment later I will dig around for you

Ahhh! just wondering why it was warm. I secretly wanted to stay and play with it myself it was rather nice.

I keep my home-made playdoh in the fridge. When we want to use it, I put a few drops of a (nice) smelly essential oil, then zap it in microwave for short while. The children love having warm, scented playdoh.

We sometimes add glitter to it too, but you can't heat in in microwave.

I have just made playdoh for the first time ever! (proud mummy emoticon) LOL Grin

Playdoh Recipe
1 Mug Plain Flour
1 Mug of Water
1/2 Mug of Salt
2tsp Cream of Tartar
1 tablespoon of oil
Food Colouring (choose your own amount depending on how strong a colour you require)

1 Mix all ingredients together and sieve
2 Heat, stirring constantly until smooth ball forms
3 Remove from heat
4 Knead for several minutes
5 Allow to cool. Keep in an airtight container

And Voila!!

help, at the risk of sounding like a play doh ignoramus, what is cream of tartar???/

otassium hydrogen tartrate, an acid salt it helps to keep it from going off for longer.

I don't bother with cooked recipes. I do 1 cup flour, 1/2 cup salt, a little oil, the water to mix. I also add food colouring and vanilla essence to make it smell nice. It's far quicker and easier but doesn't last as long.
