some local authorities propose cuts to instrumental music. Parents may expect raised fees etc look for example at Bedfordshire Warwick Northamptob North Yorkshire and others there are petitions for different areas see Micael Rose website for Bedfordshire.

This has been on the cards for a while. It is so short-sighted as stats prove that children who play a musical instrument tend to do better academically.

I have several friends who are worried about their jobs.

These cuts are daft now as Darren Henley of Classic FM fame is reviewing music education for the government. He is due to report in December this year and will spell out how music education will be funded and run. These cuts by local authoritries could pull the rug for music before they have time to sort out the way things will work in the future.

Authorities should not try to implement radical change before the Henley report. I agree with Tom Service and his comments in the Guardian
