Hi my ds is really independant with his homework - gets on with it etc .mostly does at school.he is very pruod and if he gets criticisim he can close down a bit - we do work on that...however i noted that although his work is good he is not really being accurate soetimes for eg - mispells etc and i know that if i oversaw homework he would be pointed in right direction a bit more...hed hate it thought!!.I know that this sounds silly bt do parents have to oversee homework - it may give a false ablilty in one way if im guiding?I know this sounds daft but id like pointers if poss so that it does nt turn ds off homework as at mo he proud he a self starter - year 9 btw...

Not to be funny but did you proof read your message?

We are expected to check DD's homework with her, and to sign to say we have done so. If I see mistakes, I ask her to look over the work again and see if she can tell me why it's wrong. Then I will help her to work through it.
You should have received guidance from the school regarding what's expected of you; if not, ask for it.

Sometimes if its a "new" type of homework I'll help - DS (year 9 as well) had to write up a science practical last week in more detail than he was used to. He had a list of criteria he was supposed to meet for the different levels but he was being a bit clueless. I gave him some help in how to approach the work because I recognised that it was closer to GCSE level than he was used to (I have older DCs). The next time he gets a homework like this he should be able to tackle it on his own.

If its just run of the mill stuff I just leave him to it.
