maths year 3 primary

Can anyone let me know what sort of things they cover in year 3 maths? I'm just trying to workout how to support my daughter as she feels she is struggling - although she is probably quite average at maths really. Thanks.

DS1 is doing the times tables thing too. Lots of halving and doubling.

Times tables, addition and subtraction to 100, and in tens to 1000. Very basic fractions. Lots and lots of measuring things, metric measures and weights etc.

from my dd's targets for the end of year 3:

-partition 3 digit numbers into multiples of 100, 10 and 1 in different ways

-derive and recall all addition and subtraction facts for each number to 20, sums and differences of multiples of 10 and number pairs that total 100

-add and sbtract mentally combinations of 1 digit and 2 digit numbers

-draw and complete shapes with reflective symmetry; draw the reflection of a shape in a mirror line along one side

-read, to the nearest division and half-division, scales that are numbered or partially numbered; use the information to measure and draw to a suitable degree of accuracy

-use Venn diagrams or Carroll diagrams to sort data and objects using more than 1 criterion

Phew! I did A level maths years ago but that list is a bit overwhelming.

Place value of each digit in a number and use this to order numbers up to 100. Money and measures. They recognise sequences of numbers, including odd and even numbers. 3-D and 2-D shapes and describe their properties, including numbers of sides and corners. Angles, units of measurement & mass. Plus more complex addition, subtraction and beginnings of multiplication and division. Sorry if this is a bit full of jargon, I'm a teacher who runs a tuition centre so I spot the aspects which the children have problems with. Best thing you can do to help her is ask her what she's been doing and get her to show you and explain. If you're encouraging she'll enjoy sharing her learning and that reinforces it.

think the rest have pretty much covered it.
We're doing 2D and 3D shapes atm, and we do loads on times tables and number lines - questions like "is this number bigger or smaller than that one"... we write 10-20-30-40-50-60-70-80-90-100 along a line in black and then get the children to place a 2-digit number they're given in the correct place, such as 55 half way along the line between 50 and 60. Sounds basic but works.
Use counters, tiddlywinks, sweets or rasins for grouping to show times tables - one group of three, two groups of three then count them all = 6, so on.
