Just a thought and not actually planning to do this but, for instance a students wants to apply for a competitive course and has been warned that any low grade at GCSE will be rejected straight away, does this have to be recorded if all other grades are good.

Not familiar how it works, they might check on a computer. Grin

Oh that's a shame, pity they don't ask for the best 8. It was the only C in an arts subject Sad, would have been better not doing the exam.

C is not really that low a grade. They'll be looking for an over all picture and if the rest are high and the lower grade is in something unrelated to the degree in question, they'll most likely disregard it

Best to put them all down though. i had to show my exam certificates when i registered at university and there's usually one from each board IIRC with more than one exam on it.

mumeeee · 02/10/2010 23:55

C isn't a low grade.

mumeeee · 02/10/2010 23:57

Do a lot of unis ask for your GCSE certificates then? Neither DD1 or 2 had to showthem when they went to uni

loopyloops · 02/10/2010 23:58

Oh, that's fine. An errant U might raise eyebrows, but really they won't bat an eyelid at a GCSE C.

I'm not in uni admissions but have been a 6th form tutor with UCAS training.

This is comforting to read as I've been a bit worried about one of DSs grades which was a C. He is applying to Oxbridge and we'd heard rumours that lower grades may ruin his chances. The C is in a second (unusual) foreign language that he taught himself so hopefully they will take that into account.

loopyloops · 03/10/2010 11:39

Honestly, it won't make a bit of difference.

dilemma456 · 03/10/2010 12:35

If its any comfort I went to a Russell group uni and my C was in maths. Rubbish at it then, rubbish at it now Blush

Maybe it was just my uni that wanted to see the certifiates. It was in the mid nineties. Probably all done electronically now

Remotew · 03/10/2010 15:40

We have been told that a couple of unis have admitted that they will throw out any application with a C grade, this is for medicine where there might be 1000 for 30 places. Also been advised to ask when we go to open days for their exact admissions criteria and not apply to such places.

Won't fret about it, nothing that can be done and who knows what changes between now and then.
