Discounts at prep schools for teachers working there

Hi there,

Does anyone teach at a prep school which offers discounts for their dc? And if so, how much discount do you receive?

Just curious and wondering whether this might be an option for me (a stay at home mum at the moment).

I know around here if a discount is offered it can vary between a few %, to one terms fees, so a lot of difference.

bigfootbeliever · 10/09/2010 18:20

I think it's a 25% discount at my DS's prep.

At my dd's school the discount is 7o% for full time workers including support staff. This is off tuition fees only - extras such as lunches & music lessons are full price.

I was speaking to a parent at school the other day who said he is going to train to be a teacher to get 80% of school fees at our prep. I was annoyed as he should be going into teaching because he loves the profession and kids!

Not that, that is your situation.

Rhian82 · 10/09/2010 19:47

I used to do an admin job at a private school, and all staff got 33% off school fees (so a term free, effectively).

Sadly this was years before I had a child?

mumoverseas · 10/09/2010 20:26

At my DC's old prep school teachers got a 50% discount

arizonagirl · 10/09/2010 21:07

Thanks for your thoughts. Rhian82, does that apply to more than one child do you know? I have four, probably wouldn't go down very well. Wasn't going to go back just yet but actually very tempting. Oh, and ShakesPear, don't worry - I absolutely ADORE my job. I am so lucky to have trained for something which I absolutely love (but yes, discounts would be a little added bonus).

I would get 50% if mine went to our prep school.

arizonagirl · 10/09/2010 22:00

mitochondria - would that be 50% per child? Thank you for replying.

Yes, I think so.

ShakesPear · 11/09/2010 13:02

It should be for each child. You should definitely go for it!

I know Woodcote House School is Surrey give 90%. It is a boys school but the teachers daughters are allowed to go there and get the discount.

colapips · 11/09/2010 14:34

Yes all indie schools in my area give discount for staff.

But I know that not always beneficial for the children - either to be seen not getting preferential treatment they are almost ignored and not selected for stuff, or they are selected for stuff, and therefore then get grief from other kids, for being treated that way as only due to their 'parents'.

mitochondria · 11/09/2010 15:25

I think children being taught by parents is a separate issue really, as this can happen in state schools too.

It happened to me in my village primary - I was taught by my mum in about year 2. I remember her being very keen not to give me preferential treatment to the extent of being a bit mean.

I think my children might struggle when they were older in terms of what we can afford vs what their parents can afford - homes, cars, holidays etc.

Rhian82 · 13/09/2010 11:45

I think it was for each child, yes. Pretty much all the staff's children went there, and for the support staff especially it was really good as they probably wouldn't have been able to afford private school otherwise.

Hello, just wondering if anyone knows of any private schools in buckinghamshire that give staff discount?
