one of mine does too!!!

mumtosomeone · 02/09/2005 07:56

he is the 3rd of mine to go and the others have settled so easily I am quite chilled about it.
He will be fine dont worry!!!

tigermoth · 02/09/2005 08:01

I bet you'll have lots to talk about when he comes home this evening. My oldest starts secondary school on Tuesday. I will be feeling jittery then, too.

Did you send him off with all his new games kit? I don't know whether to load my son down with it all, or not. And I am so used to giving him a packed lunch, it will be strange to wave him off with nothing - from what I gather it's not cool for children to take in sandwiches. In fact I am off to start a thread on this...

mumtosomeone · 02/09/2005 08:04

DS is just taking pencil case! only therefor the afternoon!!

happymerryberries · 02/09/2005 08:05

You can phone the school and see what kit your child needs btw.

In our school only the new year 7 and sixth form come into school on the first day....induction day. They don't have their normal time table, but instead get shown round the school. get regestered with the library, have a safety lesson in DT and science, have school photos taken etc.

The idea is that they have a day to start to orient themselves before the rest of the schoo arrives.

If you are not sure what your child needs to take, phone the school office and ask....school will be open before the kids go back.

Tuesday for my ds, too, and I still haven't altered his trousers or named half his stuff. I'm less cool about it than he is, but mainly because of the practical stuff I have to do.

He's been told not to bring in PE kit on the first day.

I'm hoping they'll both stop having packed lunches now. Ds will have a great choice at his secondary school; dd will have to cope with slowly supposedly improving school dinners at her primary.

mumtosomeone · 02/09/2005 08:13

oh no...not named a thing!!!
Ah well he wont be taking anything off today!!!
Only bother naming jumpers really!

Got everything except the tie and badge - have to go to the school office for those. Today. I can ask questions about packed lunches and games kit when I am there. Bet my son will hate me doing this, though!

swedishmum · 02/09/2005 09:05

It's Monday for us and I still haven't named anything either. She's the only one going there from her primary school and I think I'm more concerned about getting lunch right etc than her! She has some very good friends in the year above her so I bombarded one poor girl with questions yeasterday.
How did she get grown up so fast? (Really pathetic mum sitting here moist-eyed.)

potty1 · 02/09/2005 09:12

My 'baby' starts on Wednesday. Now they are all grown up

calebsmummy · 02/09/2005 09:13

Swedishmum, not silly...normal!!! I am too and he is there now. Funny one for me as we are moving from London to Hampshire on Sunday so DH and ds stayed at our friends house last night so he could start on the first day. We have 2 more boys (under 3) so wasn't practical for me to stay with them in our friends tiny 2 bed house.

Dh has just called though and says he is fine. It is only yr 7 for them today, good idea I think.

I still have that over emotional feeling though.

Oh and PE kit...ds had to take his today as they are doing PE this afternoon. But yes, the school will tell you.

My dear little nephew starts secondary school today, he has to wear his PE kit.

He said he wasn't going this morning as he doesn't want too! He said the same when he had to spend some time there recently but ended up having a nice day.

I hope he enjoys it today, otherwise he won't want to go on Monday.

calebsmummy · 02/09/2005 09:18

Blimey, it's a good thing I wasn't there this morning, I would have embarrased him, I am crying sat at home!!!

A friend of mine said her ds, when asked anxiously how he was feeling about starting at secondary, answered: 'It's just school, mum.'

MarsLady · 02/09/2005 09:33

My DS1 started Y7 last year and the one thing that I noticed (which all my friends found) was that it was a bit like starting Reception. They get rather tired and emotional, but it should all settle within a term or two. So try not to worry if they seem tearful or grumpy in a couple of weeks.

I hope they all have a brilliant year!

mumtosomeone · 02/09/2005 10:52

my dd just got................stopy and over confident!!!!

mumtosomeone · 02/09/2005 15:47

Home now..seems ok!!!

happymerryberries · 02/09/2005 15:49

And many of them seem to get worse in years 8 and 9 as the hormone pixie comes to call! They start to get more human in year 10 in my experience

mumtosomeone · 02/09/2005 15:53

got one going in to year 10 and one going into year 8...cant cope with more hormones!!!!

happymerryberries · 02/09/2005 15:53

Poor you, it must be hell! I'm dreading it!

mumtosomeone · 02/09/2005 15:58

luckily only 1 girl!

kid · 02/09/2005 16:43

My nephew came home from school saying it was boring. He didn't want to go to the park, just wanted to get home and go on the laptop!
Must be a tough life having to go to school all day!

Fauve · 02/09/2005 17:01

That's what my ds will want to do. Straight into his own world on the laptop.

Shame about the homework.

swedishmum · 02/09/2005 19:02

Hope it went well for all of them.
