Does anyone know how good Ibstock Place School is? Would you say it comes in top tier of schools in London?

I have friends who rave about it and others who have removed their children from there. I would be surprised if it was considered to be one of the top schools.

definitely not top tier - suits some kids and has lovely facilities, location etc but not in same league as St Paul's, Westminster, King's, LEH, Godolphin etc

thanks for the response. my daughter has just turned 2 and we were looking for a co-ed school for her (coz we also have a baby boy). would you know which independent schools are the best in putney/wandsworth and chiswick. we have recently moved to london.

I'm not in the independent sector but I have friends at Prospect House (very sought after), Putney Park, La Roche, Hurlingham etc, all Putney. Different schools seem to suit different people depending on the family. I think academically Fulham Prep is rated highly but most of my friends choose single sex schools.

If you are looking for co-ed in that part of London then I would probably say Latymer upper as many of the others are single sex schools. It starts from year 3 so you would have to send them elsewhere before then!

Give Ravenscourt Park Prep a call, though you are probably too late. Harrodian has a stronger reputation than Ibstock. (And look at the recent thread.)

I agree with Staranise. I knew two or three families who were very unhappy with the Prep, one of whom appears to have been treated quite badly. Then at a secondary school open day I overheard people behind me talking about how they could not wait to get out. I turned round assuming it was the families I knew, but no. Two other families. In fairness the senior school seems more appreciated and takes a wider ability range than others in the area. (And a bit of a reputation for taking ex pats at all points who have not previously been in the English education system.)

There are some very good state Primaries in both Putney and Chiswick and Putney High and the Hammersmith Schools expect to take a large number of girls at 11+ from the state sector. Boys are a bit more tricky, but one approach is to do state primary till 7, when you have a bit of a better idea of what sort of child you have. Then if they are doing well try Latymer Prep(which is becoming a bit of a lottery at this stage because of the sheer number of applications), Bute for girls or Colet Court for boys. At that point you can also look at the other preps including Ibstock. The trouble with choosing a school which also has a senior department is that they will not be as focussed on external 11+ or 13+ preparation.

Putney/wandworth and chiswick are quite a distance from each other, which are you? I know lots of people with children at Ibstock, they seem very happy

Hard to tell whether the Harrodian is stronger as it will not release its results. It is more laid back and less formal than Ibstock. Great for creative rather than academic children.
