Preps you love around an hour's commute to London

Just wondered if anyone had a great prep to recommend within an hour's commute to London.

We are looking to move and considering our choices. Dh will be commuting to London most days. Ideally we are looking for co-ed but are flexible.

Seem to have travelled all over the country in the last few weeks but don't seem to be getting anywhere. Over to the great mumsnetters Smile

Oxford??

champagnesupernova · 06/09/2010 16:27

Depends where in London you need to commute to, too
West was really no good for my DH as the tube ride to the city adds another 45 mins to commute so we've ended up in Herts

Which London mainline station is most convenient for your DH? Do you need to be close to airports too?

arizonagirl · 06/09/2010 18:48

Thanks for your replies. Waterloo would be best for dh but he moves around so we are open to suggestions. Airports would be good but not essential. We are considering Faringdon in Oxfordshire and looked at Bishops Stortford at the weekend - liked it but it didn't feel quite right. Any more thoughts {smile}

AG - what's not to like about Stortford?

thinkingaboutschools · 06/09/2010 20:11

I have posted a question about Caldicott (which I am interested in for my DS)- that is at Farnham Royal - within 35 mins from London

wheresthegin · 06/09/2010 20:11

ST Hughs then?
ST Andrews in Pangbourne?

MmeBlueberry · 06/09/2010 20:27

Within an hour of Waterloo, you are looking at Staines/Egham, Woking, Weybridge, Guildford basically along the M25 between the M4 and A3.

Thinkingabout....Farnham Royal is not in a particularly nice area, basically the outskirts of Slough. Not sure I'd want to live there no matter how good the prep is as it's drearyville.

Chanamenotalreadyinuse. Take your point - but Beaconsfield and some other places relatively near by are quite nice? (if expensive?)

chatnamenotalreadyinuse · 06/09/2010 20:47

Yes Beaconsfield is v nice. In fact it's on my list of places to move to!

If your child is a boy, would recommend the Beacon School in Amersham (Bucks). Easily reached from Marylebone.
