ds starting reception,feeling sad

My ds was 4 last month ans starts reception next week.Anyone else feeling really apprehensive.I don't know how I will feel.I have a dd also who is 2 and will start pre school just once a week.

I know it will be really good for ds as I think although he has his sister to play with he is getting to the stage where he needs more stimulation and school will give him that.As much as you try to keep their days busy I sometimes wonders if he is bored. It will be a whole new beginning for him and am pleased in that respect but upset at what feels like the end of him being my baby and being with his mum.

It will be good for dd as I will be able to spend quality time just me and her.So could be a new chapter for me and her as well.I have always had the children with me everyday since they were born as no family around to help out so not use to being without them.
Just wondered how other parents have felt when your "baby" starts school.

Mine is starting next week too .. but he's 4.6 and has been going to the school's nursery school (2.5 hrs a day) for 15 months

I can't wait .. I can't wait I tell ya .. he's driving me banananananas

and I'll get to spend more time with DD who is 16 months

sorry, not helpful I know but I think the apprehension might come from the fact he's 6 months younger and its a new environment

hi lazydays i have a ds aged4/9 he is ready for school, because he is a only one i feel really sad, like you i have stayed at home with him & not had much help from family so i feel very close to him ,it,s like as if i am losing part of him,but there again they all grow up we can,t keep them close by for ever.

Thanks everyone for your replys.

It will be nice to have some time with dd.
Have always found it daunting taking them both out into town shopping,so will be good for me to get some confidence back just having to manage dd.

I just hope he settles ok and copes well when it is time for me to leave.I always hated having to leave him in tears at pre school.

Hi, my DS1 is 4.7 and starting school next week, mornings first week, afternoons the second and full time from the third week. I'm really sad too, I went back to work full time when he was 7 months and was made redundant last December, so I feel like I've been making up for lost time iyswim, and I just don't feel like I've had long enough. I'm also worried as DS1 only listens to what he wants to hear so doesn't respond appropriately when people are talking to him

ha, icant wait till ds2 starts reception next week. and the week after dd starts play group three times a week. yeahhhhh.

Have got all of ds's uniform but just occured to me did'nt get any PE kit ie shorts and t shirt.
He will only be doing 8.55-12.00 until January,so does he need a PE kit?

ld, I'd wait and see what the timetable says. dd doesn't change for PE until the summer term even though she is there all day.

TinyGang · 01/09/2005 14:54

He might need it lazydays. All schools are different, but dd has often gone in in the morning and they've got changed for PE straight away for the fist lesson.

Sometimes I think on days like that, if I knew, it would be quicker to just put the PE kit on before we leave the house rather than get dressed here, go to school and then change again!

DD1 starts on Monday, and whilst I was dreading it a month ago, I now can't wait!!

She has been complaining about not being at pre school, although we have met up with her friends, and is so excited about going to school.

I also think DD2 will have more time from me, though she will miss DD1 too.

But I am sure I will be shedding a tear or 2 on Monday!

lazydays · 01/09/2005 15:03

Thanks everyone-I would imagine I won't be the only one shredding a tear at the school gates.

AS for PE kit I will check with the school on Monday.Just assumed it was like pre school for the first term and he would'nt need one.

hi lazydays i would assume that your ds needs a pe kit unless told otherwise by the school, i know that my dd1 had pe twice a week in reception & she was mornings only.
next monday dd2 will start in reception. infact both my dds are starting at a brand new school because we are moving area soon & they are going to school in the new area. this will mean a 40 minute drive each way for me & hanging around all day before i pick them up (to save on petrol costs) until we actually move cant say im looking forward to it & i hope theyll both be ok.
