GCSE results - any teachers nervous?

I've just finished my NQT year so this is the first year that I've had GCSE students. I am SOOO nervous about tomorrow? I'm hoping that other teachers out there can tell me that this is normal. That it is not just students and parents that are nervous!

it is completely normal! am a head of department and have been strangely edgy the night before results ever since my NQT year... deep breathes are needed. Hope your pupils do ok!

TheFallenMadonna · 23/08/2010 16:40

I am more nervous for my students than I was for my own results. I knew Id worked...

My A level students did pretty well, but I'd be astonsished if my GCSE students exceeded expectations unfortunately. Not a good class this year.

WillowFae · 23/08/2010 16:45

Oooh, so nice to know I'm not alone! I'm a HoD and the only teacher in the department so it is all down to me!

I know that I did all that I could - running lunchtime sessions, revision days in the Easter holidays, but it still feels like it will be my fault if they don't do well.

Why, FallenMadonna, out of interest?

BelligerentGhoul · 23/08/2010 16:46

Just read mine online - am quite pleased!

TheFallenMadonna · 23/08/2010 16:49

Why where they a difficult class?

frasersmummy · 23/08/2010 16:51

well of course it is willow!!!Grin

if you worked till later than 4pm and didnt take 12 weeks holiday year .. perhaps the kids would know their stuff Grin

Its got nowt to do with them spending hours on their xbox while us parents whinge about kids neve being in school!! Grin

sorry .. I just couldnt resist.. the very fact you are on here saying you are nervous for your students speaks volumes about how you feel about your job and I am sure it will show in their results - well the ones that deserve it

MmeRedWhiteandBlueberry · 23/08/2010 17:04

I'm not really thinking about my own pupils too much. I think, as a cohort, they will do as expected, with some moving up and others moving down. There will be a few suprisingly good grades, and not many disappointing ones.

This year, my own DSs are doing A2 and GCSE, so that is where my emotions lie.

I am also a bit more interested in my Y10s rather than Y11, because if they have done badly, I can do something about it. I can't do that with my Y11s.

jetgirl · 23/08/2010 17:08

NQT and HoD! Do you teach a particularly unusual subject? I only as I do. It's perfectly normal to feel nervous. I know I do!

jetgirl · 23/08/2010 17:10

I only ask as I teach an unusual subject.

WillowFae · 24/08/2010 12:47

I teach RS jetgirl.

I am ECSTATIC today! I got 96.2% A-C and 90% A-B! That's from 79 Year 9 students :)

Can you explain something to me teachers?
The secondary school ds is going to got 78% A*-C passes (up 21% on last year)
The A*-C passes including Maths and English were 41% (up 7%)
It's had a new head for 4 years.
Does that mean that 59% of children did not get a pass in English/Maths?

titchy · 24/08/2010 16:00

No deaddei - it means that 59% of children EITHER got Maths and English and TWO other GCSEs, or got any number of GCSEs but Maths and English were not amongst them.

MmeRedWhiteandBlueberry · 24/08/2010 16:15

I haven't got my specific results yet, but the headline school ones are very good.

DS2 did well on his exams too, so I am mightily relieved chuffed. Just back from a celebratory lunch, second within a week :)

deaddei · 24/08/2010 16:23

Thanks tichy- the results have exceeded the target set by the LEA, and the school appear delighted on the website. It was a failing school till the new head took over, and seems to be coming on in leaps and bounds.
Until ds is taking them, I shall not really care.

jetgirl · 24/08/2010 20:38

Well done willowfae! Great results Grin
I'm a Latin teacher but didn't have a group this year, however I did have a media studies class this year (never taught it before) and got a good set of results. Feels good doesn't it?!

WillowFae · 24/08/2010 21:18

Thanks jetgirl. Yes, it feels VERY good! I got quite emotional. SMT were congratulating me before I saw the results so I guessed they were good, but not THAT good :)

Latin? Wow - I wish I'd done that at school. DH went to a grammar school and did learn it.
