Changing primary school with a couple of weeks to go?

Ok, this is the last post from me regarding schools I promise! Turns out a school (which is only a 3 or 4 min drive) which I had originally discounted has improved beyond belief since I visited it back in 2008 and husband just learned from the LEA that one space has come up in reception.

Son is prepared for starting at our local school, so how do we go about re-preparing him if we decide to change schools just before they start - any advice from anyone who's been through this? I'm sure he'll settle in fine and
it's the next village along, so we use the park there and eat in the pub garden sometimes.

Feeling rather anxious! I realise I will need to be super-positive and will also try to get him a show-round this week.

He probably won't notice the difference! Just take him to the park, point out the school and say "That's your new school" Most children are much more resiliant than we give them credit for, they usually pick up on OUR anxieties rather than developing ones of their own! As long as you are calm and matter of fact about it, so will he.

exactly what I wanted to hear!! Resilience, acceptance and enthusiasm... that's what I'm hoping for!!

Don't worry about it. My dd was due to start at her local school in the January as she's a summer baby. In the November we visited another school (private) and when dd was offered a place we took it. The other girls had all started in the September so she had some catching up to do but she was fine. It was the best decision we ever made and now 2 years later we feel vindicated. It was stressful at the time but my dd didn't really know much about it and accepted it in her stride.
Go for it!
