Ds' score do a learning journal but bescaue you pick it up at teh end of day, I didnt get chance to ask at the time whiney tired child He has done really well in all but three areas which have been abbreviated to SD, ED and LCT. I am guessing that sd is social development, ed is emotional development. What is LCT?

And are these areas we can work on over the course of the summer? If so how do i find out what is might be that he is weaker at doing.

Interestingly enough these areas were level with the the other level when he went into reception do development hasnt occured to the same extent. can anyone suggest a reason for this?

SD =social development
ED = emmotional development
LCT = language for communication and thinking

Mrz thankyou. do you have chance to answer one or 2 broad questions?

Does LCT include the appropriate use of language from comunicating? I wouldnt have expected that to be so low. He has a huge vocabulary.

And are the 3 areas developmentally linked.

Just surprised as these areas are 4 or 5 points below the other areas. Which seems like an awful gap. And no or little progress made during the year.

Is this likely to be a reflection of the fact he is suspected mild aspergers?

TIA.

Ok so googled and finding the chart of criteria as i understand it:

Yes LCT is communication rather then vocab
Two are linked, possibily all three
Yes could well be reflection of possible aspergers.

Please feel free to correct if wrong. Am now happy now that there appears to be good reason so small/no development in these areas. And the big differences between the two groups of areas (ie ones mentioned and other ones).

Would the sd and ed development be benefited by some after school clubs eg kirate/swimming/football type stuff? Anything else i can do with him that can be fun but helps?

I would say low scores in these three areas would be likely in a child with Asperger's although not all children with low scores will have Asperger's.

Learning to take turns and work with others in the activities you suggest would help but also things like board games and self help skills would be beneficial.

Thank you. Have just spoken to autistic society and they are sending some information sheets out for activities for this and for some other issues out. He has been playing bored games since he was three and displays no problems with turn taking and works well cooperatively at home. I wonder what the difference is between doing this at home with adults and at school with children boils down to. Basic social skills and ability to relate to his peers?

It isn't really possible to give an opinion without knowing much more about the child. Low scores would indicate an area of difficulty but wouldn't give enough detail to know in which particular aspects the difficulty lies.
