We need more places to recycle toys

Hi everyone,

I recently cleared the attic and found a bunch of old plastic toys. I didn't just want to throw them in the rubbish, but it was quite hard to find someone to take them.

I had an idea about placing recycling boxes in schools for parents to bring their kids old toys. Someone would then go through them and recycle or donate/reuse them.

Would any of you use a system like that?

Someone would then go through them and recycle or donate/reuse them.

Who would the ‘someone’ be, and how could they be recycled, I suppose is the question?

I think this could be really great, if run brilliantly. But that’s all on individual volunteers and the quality of what is donated. So like any charity shop, really.

Also, schools might not be keen to store - our primary school had absolutely no space for something like this. And if toys are donated/rehomed in school, the children themselves might find it hard to see their things going to others.

Basically, it sounds great in theory but the devil is in the detail…

Aren't you literally talking about charity shops?

Use the Olio app it’s great for passing stuff on

There are these things called charity shops and they do exactly what you’re describing. Unfortunately the stuff can’t be free otherwise greedy people will take loads to sell then fly tip it if it doesn’t sell.
