I've bought something very large and expensive (motor vehicle) and want to back out for several reasons:
- The seller is quite unfriendly, very brusque and very hard to get hold of - he just seems to ignore emails for days.
- He told me after I won it that I can't drive it home as it has no tax - and hasn't offered to get some even if I paid him to - I can't tax it without the V5.
It is about 60 miles away and I can't get it home unless I drive it. My original mistake was seeing a trade ad for a similar one and thinking it was his - the ad said he would deliver it, so I assumed he would. It wasn't his ad but I did ask before the auction finished, and got no reply.
'Assume nothing' is always a good saying in hindsight.
So basically it's something that would require considerable effort to actually get home, and he isn't being at all helpful about it. Or even speaking to me.
I have emailed early this morning (again - about my seventeenth email this week, only two of which he has replied to) asking him to cancel the transaction for the above reasons. I have apologised profusely. He won't lose anything if he cancels it.
I have said I will leave good feedback as it is my own fault for getting the ads mixed up.
Also, I noticed it said on the listing 'retunrs accepted' so basically, what I want to know is, can he get horrible and start legally demanding the money or anything like that? I haven't heard anything for about 36 hours despite asking loads of questions such as for his address for collecting it, and how it got on at the MOT he was taking it for today.
Zero contact. He has negative feedbacks already for poor communication.
I want - actually NEED - to bid on a different, nearer one in the next 24 hours or my insurance will go under, so if I don't hear from him am I safe to go ahead?
I hate doing this but do feel it is semi justified this time - if he was being more helpful I would want to follow through but he's just like 'it's not my problem' kind of person and it has put me right off.
Thanks for any input.
