Advice for selling large item

Am not an experienced ebay seller so wondered if could get some advice. We have a big (6ft by 3ft) lovely dining table made of reclaimed wood, its really nice but just way way too big for our kitchen so need to sell it. Would like to sell it for a reasonable amount like £300 or so if poss, enough to get a new (small) table. DH says there is no way we're going to find someone to buy it on Ebay (they would have to arrange to collect it as well) or if we did we would only sell it for something like £50. Has anyone had any success with big one off items like this and any tips to increase chances? Or, where would be better to try to sell it if not Ebay?

Pick up only items, in my experience, do sell quite well. Depends what area you are in as to how many local people would bid, although i am in Somerset and had someone from Wales win and collect an item i sold!

Really - that's good to know - am in London so at least not too remote! Maybe I need to start trying to sell some smaller items, I find it all a bit scary.

I have bought large 'pick up only' items on Ebay but used a courier to collect - there are several companies that do pick up one-off things around the country, eg Abbey Antiques, Easimove, as well as local man + van operations. It might help if you contacted one or two of them before listing, got a rough quote for how much it would cost to deliver within certain areas (eg with 50/100 miles, whole of England etc) so you could include that in the listing. I think Abbey, for example, charge about £80 + vat for the first item picked up and delivered anywhere in England.

Or you could try a local listings paper like Trade It, if they have one where you are.

Thank you that is very helpful - expect it might sell better if could offer delivery.
