Items not as described......how do I handle this?

I bought a ballet uniform for my dd from a seller who seemed to have good feedback scores and an established business. The description stated 'RAD uniform' but when it arrived it is not the official RAD stuff - they are copies and she is supposed to have the official stuff with the label on the shoulder. I also bought some ballet shoes which stated 'leather'....they are NOT leather but I don't know how I could prove it? They are that horrible synthetic stuff which would no doubt make their feet sweat. So after all this I am cross because I have had to go to the ££££ dance shop in town anyway and get her the correct stuff and it has all been a waste of my time.

So what should I do next?

Ask for a refund and say it is not official uniform and the shoes aren't leather. Be polite and I'm sure she will refund you as she will want to do the right thing and protect her feedback.

Ok, I am scared to do this as my friends have cited horror stories about this kind of thing and the seller becoming aggressive - but I guess you are right and should be the first step...

if she doesn't refund you can open a dispute. you will need to return the items (trackable) to get your money back

aristocat · 28/04/2010 11:22

definitely contact her and return them.
please send recorded so you are covered, any good seller will be fine about this

But this person is not a good seller when they are knowingly giving a false description of items (they must know what they are doing) should I report them to ebay afterwards or leave it?

i see - so you think it wasnt an honest mistake?

did you look at their f/b, is there anything there to help.

couldnt it be a genuine error?

electra · 28/04/2010 13:07

Well, I don't know - I can't see how they would sell stuff they say is leather which clearly isn't and not know......I don't like to think the worst of people but they should be honest in the descriptions. As I understand sellers are not supposed to list items as genuine branded when they are not.

have you contacted her to tell her the items are not genuine/shoes not leather and you want a refund?

what did she reply?

wildstrawberryplace · 28/04/2010 19:35

This happened to me once - I bought something described as cashmere and it was acrylic and fake - they had good feedback etc and the photo looked genuine.

Seller didn't respond to 1st email, so I opened a dispute right away stating item was fake, I was refunded within 1 hour, they didn't even want the item back (it went to Oxfam).

I think the point here is that she is selling FAKE stuff and misrepresenting items as being genuine when they are not (ie leather when it is synthetic) . This is against Ebay regulations. If it comes to light, the seller will be probably be struck off - I would guess she will refund you quickly to avoid this happening.

What can she do? She can't leave you bad feedback, and you can simply open a paypal dispute and get your money back.

Thanks for replies.....I guess I will go through the motions of emailing first politely. I am never rude to people anyway but I don't think this business should be allowed to continue as it is though - selling fake stuff as wildstrawberry says.
