I'd like to declutter our house and earn some money but wondered which is the best most simple way. Advice anyone please?
Also has anyone tried the police auction site biz thingy. Would you recommend it?

I will be interested to follow your experiences. We are also trying to declutter and earn a bit of money to help make way for some renovation work. I sold an Ikea desk & filing cabinets on Ebay for £26 (original cost £200!) and earned £40 at a car boot on Sunday - that's a grand total of £66 towards the £20k renovations so far.

Popular items at the car boot were: David Bowie books, old comics, costume jewellery, computer games (compatible with recent operating systems), plant pots. Stuff that I ended up bringing home: my John Lewis burgundy wine glasses (!) and old computer parts.

I think for collection items gumtree is better - no commission taken, no chance of people paying by paypal then trying to do dispute that they didnt get it, no chance of people making a problem about giving bad feedback or whatever, its just simple. but postable stuff ebay is better as you will probably get a better price.

Thanks. I've a real mixture of things so i'll try both and will also put up some ads in my local asda. I'd love to try a carboot sale but we struggle to get help looking after our 3 kids. Has anyone tried the bidwiz auction. The bargains look fab but there must be a catch surely?

Ok I'll need to motivate myself to take some pics and start posting. We're getting loft insulation on 21 may so we need to empty the loft by then yikes! I filled 2 charity bags today. I think i'll part with all my nice (vintage)skinny days clothes from 7 years and 3 babes ago first.

It depends what you are selling. eBay is good for lots of things, but for bulky or heavy items I have had good success with :

Gumtree
Local Tesco noticeboard
Local paper £50 and under column
Adtrader
Freeads

These 5 are all free to advertise, and you can supply photos for everything except the local paper! Adtrader has a website and a twice-weekly paper.

I found, in particular, that a lot of grandparents answered ads in the paper. I got rid of a car booster seat, Tweenies beanbag, doll's pram and doll's bed all to different doting grandparents last year!
