Recorded Delivery

Would you always send things by recorded, even if they only went for 99p? Up to now, I'm only offering recorded, but I'm a bit concerned that the P+P might be more than the final price...

I'd be annoyed as all F if I had to pay high postage like that.
You can claim back from Royal Mail for lost items under a certain value without using recorded delivery, so I would bank on that instead, I think.

I never used to use recorded delivery but I do now if I think the selling price will be more than around £7.00. I certainly wouldn't use it for items that were likely to sell for less than £3-£4. As CantSupinate says, if you get a certificate of posting you can claim back the cost from Royal Mail. From Royal Mail's website:

"For items posted with Royal Mail which have no intrinsic value, or where a customer cannot provide evidence of posting, there will be compensation for loss, damage and delay of a minimum of 6 x 1st class stamps at the first weight step. In the event of a compensation claim for loss we will refund the postage paid or 6 x 1st class stamps at the first weight step, whichever is greater.

For lost or damaged items that have an intrinsic value, with evidence of posting with Royal Mail (such as a certificate of posting) and evidence of value (such as an invoice or receipt) customers will be entitled to a postage refund plus compensation for actual loss up to the value of the item, or 100 x 1st class stamps at the first weight step, whichever is the lowest;"

Right, that'd be why I'm not getting bids then! I did think it a little odd tbh.

I nearly always used recorded delivery - just too much hassle when goods go missing and there have been one or two buyers who claim not to have received things when I suspect they have. Recorded delivery is only 75p extra so to send something second class RD is only a few pence dearer than 1st class normal delivery.

I don't always charge extra for recorded delivery but if something does well and goes for more than expected, then I will pay the extra 75p out of my own pocket rather than run the risk of having the parcel go missing. A recent example would be a jumper than I expected to sell for 99p or £2 at most. It went for over £6. I hadn't charged for recorded delivery but paid to have it delivered that way anyway.
