Why do some sellers only accept PayPal?

Why do some sellers state PayPal as the only means of payment?

If they have to go to the Post Office to post the item to the buyer then why not accept postal orders as they could cash them while they're there?

I only sell say 3 or 4 times per year

Extra trips to the PO are a pain

I prefer the money to go direct into my account rather than having cash

Some buyers take ages to send cheques or POs and some don't send them at all

Why would anyone not want to pay by paypal?!

SixtyFootDoll · 16/03/2010 21:38

Why would you want to take payment any other way
A cheque/ postal order = a trip to the bank/ post office.
I Only accept paypal, wouldnt bother with ebay otherwise

TrillianAstra · 16/03/2010 21:39

PITA to do anything else.

And you don't necessarily have to go to the post office with your items, you can print off postage at home adn then put in postbox if small enough, or just drop and run at the post office without queueing.

ChippyMinton · 16/03/2010 21:43

Why would a buyer want to pay loads extra to buy a postal order and a postage stamp, when they could use paypal for nothing? And pay instantly and get the item despatched quicker?

Gracie123 · 16/03/2010 21:44

I only accept paypal because I have been royally screwedby several ebayers in the past with no comeback.

Paypal offers us all the chance to a fair/unbiased dispute and refund system. It seems silly not to offer yourself and your buyer that kind of protection.

It also means I don't have to give out my bank details, or even my real name, so less chance of crazy buyers turning up at my house or trying to do anything with my details. [paranoid emoticon]

Ahh, didn't realise you could sort out the postage at home and put the package in a post box or drop off at the Post Office. I can see that having to queue just to cash a postal order would be a nuisance.

I haven't ever sold anything on Ebay and I always pay by either cheque or postal order. We just haven't got around to sorting out a PayPal account yet.

on certain listings you are only allowed to accept paypal and nothing else.

I print postage from home, and if I only accept paypal I can get things ready to post right away rather than waiting for cheques or postal orders to arrive in the post and having to deal with them.

Plus people who have paypal tend to know what the are doing on ebay--I won't sell to anyone now who doesn't do paypal. Last time I allowed someone to pay by cheque she kept hassling me to send before cheque cleared, not due to scamming, just ignorant and inexperienced.

ilovesprouts · 23/03/2010 13:15

i pay by po and ive been screwed by two sellers saying i have not payed ,but i have the recipts to prove it

I accept cheques and Postal orders as well as PayPal as I don't want to discriminate against people who can't get PayPal accounts. However, I make it clear that I won't send goods until any cheques have cleared. Postal orders are great as I always post at the Post Office to get a certificate of posting so can cash the PO first - and I don't have to pay PayPal fees.

However, myself, I always pay by PayPal to get the speed and protection.

Maybe I should stop accepting cheques, and just do POs and PayPal?
