Buyer sent shoes with soles covered in dried on mud - should I give neutral feedback?

Would you leave neutral feedback for receiving dirty muddy shoes from an eBay seller?

if you ahve any issues you should always contact the seller prior to leaving feedback

maxybrown · 15/03/2010 11:50

I had this one and shoes were fab, just had mud on them so left positive with a "even came with their own mud!!!!!" I think if the shoes are great then no I wouldn't

justallovertheplace · 15/03/2010 11:52

Depends. I always give the benefit of the doubt, as I know if I am in a rush to post things or if I or the kids are ill I would just rather get them posted. If they are OK otherwise I would leave positive tbh

sixlostmonkeys · 15/03/2010 12:02

were they childrens shoes or adult shoes?

savoycabbage · 15/03/2010 12:04

Just on the soles or on the actual shoes?

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 15/03/2010 12:07

Fair enough I think I'll give a positive but maybe say something in the comments about it.

I've just looked at her feedback and she's got a couple of comments like "arrived quickly but quite bobbled" and "wouldn't call it excellent condition" etc but all positives.

I don't have particularly high standards but as an eBay seller I wouldn't have sold them all muddy. It's not freecycle.

Kids shoes, mud mostly on the soles, and caked in the treads. Not a massive issue, I just think it's a bit lazy not to wash dirt off.

And this is just days after I bought a double buggy off eBay that they said was in very good condition but had food crumbs and splashed milk on the seats and black mould spots on the harness, only one head hugger, cracked cup holder etc. I'd have said something at the time but it was a six hour round trip to collect it and we had to get back for the babysitter. It has washed okay now but I still take issue with the "very good condition" bit.

I think people list stuff sometimes without actually looking at the item first.

I also think people have very different ideas!!

I too would not sell stuff with mud on or stains or marks but some people think that is ok.

TrinityIsFuckingTrying · 15/03/2010 12:57

sometimes its all someone can do to remmebrr to post it

I'll definitely not serll anything now if its has to be sparkling when it gets to you

Tortoise · 15/03/2010 13:00

I would leave positive but state condition too.

How long would it have taken to bang some mud off?
I only sell items in a condition i would be happy to receive.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 15/03/2010 13:28

Trinity, I know you're having a hard time, and obviously it's hard to know what people have going on in their lives, but as a general rule buyers do expect things to be at least reasonably clean when you pay money for them on eBay and they are described as being in good condition. I wouldn't expect second hand shoes to be spotless but there's a difference between used and dirty. I feel the condition also extends to how clean something is.

In any case, I left positive feedback remarking on their speedy arrival, and just thanking her for the mud.

TrinityIsFuckingTrying · 15/03/2010 13:48

i'm sorry
I shouldn't have posted

like the idea of thanking her for the mud

maxybrown · 15/03/2010 13:53

No Trinity, you should have posted - but it was just about people being honest, not sparkling items.

JustMoon · 15/03/2010 14:00

Agree with tortoise, and I would never send something with mud on it. If it had a stain I would state that. I find it's best to be honest then people don't have false expectations and won't be disappointed.

Fel1x · 15/03/2010 14:04

I wouldnt think twice about sending kids shoes described as used with dirty soles ! If the actual shoes were clean theb surely thats good enough. The soles only go on the floor and no one even sees them! Thats what they are for, to get dirty!

Fimbow · 15/03/2010 14:07

I bought Boden boots for my dd a couple of years ago that were supposed to be BNWOT, they had a wad of chewing gum on the sole. I emailed the seller who said she had put them on her account for her friend, so hadn't actually seen them , I only paid £5 for them as she had advertised them as mini moden instead of boden. As I had paid so little, I just put - great boots, thank for the wad of chewing gum.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 15/03/2010 14:17

No, you were fine to post, Trinity. It's always good to remind people about not sweating the small stuff.

in the past I have left positive feedback and said eg 'nice item, looks lovely now it's washed' or similar
