To sum up, basically I sold a broken kitchen appliance a few weeks ago, it was stated broken in the listing so no problems there.
A guy bid, and won and collected the item and paid cash.He said it would be good for spares if he couldnt get it working. All fine (except he never left f/b but thats by the by ...)

Then out of the blue I get a message via ebay from some random woman (with zero fb saying that she is a single mum with 5 kids who bought this from my buyer who told her it was working. Could I confirm the ebay item number and give her his details

Whilst I feel sorry for her situation, I dont really want to get involved, what should I do ?

No, I wouldn't reply.

She can do an advanced search of completed items without any information from you. She should be able to find the listing, including the item number herself. Your contract was between you and the original guy and his contract is between him and this random woman.

Just don't reply,

mark her emails to be 'junked' so you don't have to deal with it,

its nothing to do with you. And you certainly shouldn't be giving peoples details to strangers on t'web

sixlostmonkeys · 01/03/2010 10:10

as she has already discovered he originally bought it from you she will have enough details to fight her case, therefor you don't need to get involved

She just might be a fictitious construct aimed at trying to get you into a position when you might offer something out of a misguided belief that you are responsible. Don't get involved:

  • If she knew how to get hold of you, your buyer/her seller must have had some contact with her, so she can contact him.
  • How did she know how to get hold of you? The buyer would have no reason to tell her, unless he was trying to pass blame about the item.
  • If she knows who you are, she can surely look up your item (using the feedback), to see that you had advertised it broken.
  • She can get back at him through eBay (leave negative feedback and open a dispute) and PayPal (do a chargeback), so (a) there is surely nothing for her to complain about anyway and (b) you are not the one to complain to if she hasn;t taken it though these other channels.

If you want to avoid any comeback from her, you can change your setting not to accept any bids from eBayers without any feedback.

Sorry you have worried about this!
