Just a question on quite I minor issue, but I am having a very frustrating ebay day today for one reason or another .

I always fill in the item dispatched box promptly so buyers can see it has been sent. I am just fed up of getting marked down on communication when the item is more often than send the following or same day to receiving payment.

I buy on ebay a lot also. As long as the item is received reasonably promptly I always give 5 stars for communication, where no actual communication has been necessary IYSWIM.

So my question is - when selling, do you communicate with the buyer other than when there is a problem or delay in posting (e.g. weather, illness etc)? Conversely when buying do you expect to be communicated with, other than as I have outlined above?

always best to send an item dispatched email, you should have a template for this. Marking the box doesn't really count as communication.

The stars are rubbish anyway tbh, people's opinions will always differ and some people would never give 5 anyway. I always send an email to let them know I have sent it though. Though it's annoying when people don't pay for days and don't even bother to let you know!

I do, yes, and it doesn't seem to get taken into account.

The stars thing is just wrong wrong wrong. I am marked down on despatch time all the time, because the stuff is coming from abroad d'oh.

I always send out an e-mail when I despatch an item. It is then obvious that any delays in receiving an item are the Post Office's fault and not mine! On this e-mail I also ask people to leave me feedback to let me know it has arrived safely, then I will leave feedback for them. This approach has been very sucessful in getting buyers to leave feedback. But I think I have been marked down a little bit on despatch time as I usually use 2nd class. I was wondering if I switched to first class would I be marked down on postal charges instead?

I will also e-mail a buyer if they send a cheque or postal order to say that it has been received.

Thanks everyone. I used to send an email and might go back to it. Going to take a bit of an ebay break for a while, due to some arsey buyer winding me up.

I send out an email. I also mark the item as dispatched.

I do use 2nd class but I state it on my auctions and I do say that I use 2nd class in order to keep costs down for the buyer but if they want the item faster or with insurance etc then they need to let me know so I can send them an amended invoice with the correct postage on it, as the cost will rise.
