Two nasty experiences on ebay..inc threats from one member!

Ive been buying and selling on ebay for 5 years and rarely have any problems..Ive got 100 per cent feedback.
However this last week or two Ive had a couple of quite unpleasant experiences inc one seller who is sending me threatening emails!

Firstly

On the 18th Jan..I listed a washing machine on BIN..someone clicked BIN straight away..great..however I messaged this person through ebay to ask when they were collecting..it took 2 days for them to respond..buyer replied.."can I collect tomorrow evening and pay by paypal"..I replied yes and gave my address...buyer never turned up..paypal payment was not made
It got to the weekend with no response from buyer despite several emails..I got hold of their phone number and rang and left a message..no answer..in the end I opened a non payment dispute

Last night buyer emailed me saying sorry he hadnt been intouch he had been ill with flu..I informed him that I had re listed the item as he was a no show..I then get a really nasty email back

"Thats fine..but please close the dispute immediately and I will be leaving you negative feedback and reporting you to ebay for selling an item I had already bought..by the time Ive finished with you your feedback rating will be nil"

I emailed buyer back informing them that they had not in fact bought the item and their emails were threatening and I would be fw them to ebay..as yet Ive heard nothing back but notice that although I have attempted to end the dispute by cancelling the transaction..the buyer has not responded.

Secondly..I bid on a lovely moses basket being sold locally and won the item for the bargain price of ten pounds on sunday morning..I emailed seller to ask when I could collect (they had stated cash on collection)..heard nothing..I then sent about 2 more emails and even telephoned seller and left a message, they never got in touch...I started to wonder if they had backed out of the sale as the basket had finished quite cheaply..this has happened to me before...so last night after 56 hours had elapsed since I won item..I left neutral feedback saying they hadnt been in touch and succesfully bid on another moses basket locally.

Today I had an email from the seller which tbh is quite frightening..its a man who has said..he only works up the road from me and knows where I live..hes furious that Ive left neutral feedback, claims he did reply to my emails and has also threatened to open a non payment dispute.the email was littered with expletives..Im quite frightened tbh that someone is sending my emails saying they know where I live..Ive never had that happen with ebay before and being 26 weeks pregnant I feel quite scared

Sorry to hear of your dilemma with ebay, but if someone is threatening you and says they know where you live I would contact the police. It probably is an idle threat but still not on. Can you forward the email to Ebay?

I'm new to ebay and have had one bad experience when I opened a dispute against a seller as they sold me a fake designer bag. Did get my money back though.

Good luck.

I have fw the threatening email to ebay and informed the seller that I have done..I guess if I have to Ill let the police know..

great..one of them has now left neg feedback saying I sold the item straight away to someone else

Don't you have the opportunity to respond to negative feedback?

memorylapse · 27/01/2010 19:23

yes..I have responded..doesnt alter the fact that my lovely feedback rating has now dropped from 100 per cent to 93 per cent

A few more good sales and it will be back up there. You watch

harimosmummy · 27/01/2010 19:58

I've never had a bad experience on Ebay but I don't bother selling anymore - sellers have so few bloody rights now.

Not sure where you are, but I have a Moses basket and a mattress and half a dozen sheets going spare if you want them?

nancy75 · 27/01/2010 20:00

honestly? you shouldn't have people sending horrible emails, but it does seem you were abit quick to leave feedback for the moses basket. just because people sell stuff on ebay they do have other things in their life. they might not be nearby when the listing ends. i'm not making excuses for the threatening behaviour its totally wrong, but next time you buy something maybe be a bit more patient?

harimosmummy · 27/01/2010 20:10

The negative feedback must have been left by the buyer.

Sellers no longer have the right to leave negatives (wrong, IMHO, but true)

NoahAndTheWhale · 27/01/2010 20:15

Tbh 56 hours isn't very long to wait before leaving neutral feedback. I would wait at least say 72 hours before starting to get a bit annoyed and then about a week before actually leaving the feedback.

memorylapse · 27/01/2010 20:23

the negative feedback was left by the buyer who failed to show or pay after 8 days..I dont think he was genuine...and Ive reported him to ebay.

personally I think that nearly 3 days past a listing finishing with no contact from the seller inc a request for a seller total..so I couldnt even pay for the item..was a bit long to leave it..I have a busy life too but make a concious effort to check my listings when they end as soon as possible..it doesnt exactly take long.

no it doesn't take long but unexpected things happen in peoples lives that mean ebay is not always top of their to do list.

memorylapse · 27/01/2010 20:54

I appreciate that..but that wasnt the case in this instance an there was no need for threats

the guy who "bought" my washing machine is the one sending nasty emails now and has left really nasty feedback..he is now accusing me of being a hoaxer and selling imaginary items!!!

OP posts:
mowcop · 27/01/2010 21:01

if you contact ebay they may remove his negative feedback because you had a case against him and he has not actually paid for the item. I have had this happen and they removed it straight away.

memorylapse · 27/01/2010 21:45

thanks

I have messaged ebay so will wait and see what happens

OP posts:
memorylapse · 28/01/2010 08:31

well sadly ebay have refused to remove the feedback as they say its factual..the buyer has now actually followed up my reply to his neg feedback saying I threatened him!!!..it looks awful to be honest and Im quite upset as people like him really should not be on ebay..so Im closing my ebay account down and not using ebay anymore..seems ebay are not interested when other members abuse it

That's terrible. I have a business on ebay and nearly 2000 feedback and have only ever encountered a couple of arse holes. One of whom kept saying he would could to my home. Frantic phone calls to ebay followed and they kicked him off.

I'm sorry ebay were no help to you, I think if you are a business seller you can phone them and get a decent response, but if not it is email only and I tend to find they read the first line of your message and then fire off a generic response.

memorylapse · 28/01/2010 19:50

I think thats whats happened to me..I just got an automatic response email..

Chillohippi · 28/01/2010 20:01

56 hours isn't a long time to wait for someone to contact you really.

The first guy, with the washing machine, sounds like a loon. Sadly there are plenty of them on Ebay. If I were you I would contact Ebay and they should remove his feedback as there was a dispute for non-payment. How long did you wait between him pressing BIN and relisting it?

memorylapse · 28/01/2010 21:31

Chilli...I waited 8 days to re list the item..ebay have emailed saying they cannot removed the feedback

OP posts:
Chillohippi · 29/01/2010 00:08

Ah you see you can only put a non-paid dispute in at 8 days, so Ebay would expect you to wait longer than that to see if they paid once you logged it as un-paid. It's exptremely annoying and your buyer sounds like a right tool, but Ebay would want you to wait longer and give the buyer the benefit of the doubt.

memorylapse · 29/01/2010 13:02

thats strange as it allowed me to put the non payment dispute in after 5 days..and asked me to close it when 8 days had elapsed

OP posts:
NoahAndTheWhale · 29/01/2010 17:02

Hasn't non-payment dispute timing changed recently? I know you can start it earlier than you used to be able to.

Chillohippi · 29/01/2010 18:27

Oh maybe it's changed.
