MIL wants me to sell two jackets for her, wants at least £15 each - what are the odds?

I think the best way of describing them is velvety type jackets for an older lady. They are from recognised names but not designer labels. Both in v good nick but I've never sold clothes on ebay and am not convinced I'll get more than a few quid for them. Can I refuse to sell if I don't get the amount I'm looking for? Have a feeling starting off with a minimum will just discourage bids.

All advice gratefully received.

You can always put a reserve price on them, it's not shown to the bidder. You will pay extra in fees though.

Seems unlikely. Have a look on ebay at how much items from that label have sold for in teh past to get an idea of how much she's likely to get.

TBH, I think she's be better off trying a nearly new shop-do you ahve one of those nearby?

somethinganything · 12/01/2010 10:30

Thanks both

PCPlum we do have one of those shops but they're v snobby about what they take, has to be Westwood last season kind of thing so I don't think they'll be interested in her stuff. In fact she might even have tried. I'm just keen to get them out of the house asap - doing a pre-baby declutter and people keep leaving stuff with us to look after/sell/keep for other people to pick up etc so it's quite hard work!

I'd pop them on for the minimum price she wants to get for them. Then if they don't sell give them back to her at least then you've tried and can tell her that.

Cheers, Tutu - Might do that, and hope she gives me permission to send them to a charity shop if not! Is there a charge for setting a min price?

Yes, but I'm not sure what it is. It'll be something like 20p.

somethinganything · 12/01/2010 11:33

Ah, ok - prob worth it for that! Cheers

do it sunday, on the free listing day so it wont cost you owt if they dont sell.
ive had crazy money for unlikely things and pennies for what i thought were good money.
good luck!

PfftTheMagicDragon · 14/01/2010 14:35

Do a completed listings search - see what similar has sold for and you can see what hasn't sold and the starting prices - then she can see whether it will sell and if she is being optimistic, before you go spending your money on ebay fees.

Thanks, both.

motherlove good tip on the free listing day!
