I'm currently selling a coat on e-bay and a bidder from Croatia who has been a member since 2007 but has no feedback whatsoever.

I find it very strange.

I did state UK only on the auction.

Someone e-mailed from Germany to see if I would ship to them and they had good back so I thought no problem.

Theres still four days left and the jacket is up to £130 its a lot of money at the minute for me to lose if something went wrong.

WWYD?

I am abroad and often ask ebayers if they will send over here as the pound is so low at the moment that shopping in UK is very good value for money for me.

If he/she pays paypal then you are covered, you would not send the coat until the payment was made anyway.

It's just the lack of feedback that worried me. So once the fees are in my paypal account I cant be scammed?

I do that too. Or I buy things from UK e-bay and get them sent to my sister or US e-bay and sent to my MIL and I have my paypal linked to all three addresses. Sometimes I forget to let the seller know because I am so used to doing it.

BatmanSmells · 11/01/2010 23:07

I would cancel the bid - paypal payments can be reversed even after received (this has happened to me more than once). I would not risk it - as you said UK only then you are well within your rights - might be worth contacting the bidder and telling them in the nicest possible way why you cancelled and then if you wish block them - this will stop them rebidding. Sorry to sound harsh but as you say it is a lot of monies - if the bidder from Germany bids - as you have agreed they can there is no problem - a good buyer will email first if it is outside of their area.

KEAWYED · 11/01/2010 23:13

Thanks I'll do it now does that mean all his bids are cancelled?

Paying by payapal does not secure your money at all! Also what if someone abroad claims item not received? Will you be fully tracking it abroad (anywhere) which is expensive, esp to be insured up to that amount.....sorry to sound so negative but they only have to say it didn't arrive and if you aren't fully insured with RM then you won't get that amount back either. I used to send abroad and still do occasionally if it is an item that is under £10 (I tend to only do buy it now's) AND the buyer has contacted me to ask first. IMO something of that value isn't worth sending out of the countyr unless the buyer is willing to pay for a poastage service that covers you. saying it is not your responsibility won't mean a jot if they make a PP claim!

Hope that helps a little!

maxybrown · 12/01/2010 09:03

Even to Germany BTW!! Oh and please make sure if you send it in the UK it is covered for the amount it sells for (SD or courier) as lots of people still only send recorded and that is only up to £39.

sixlostmonkeys · 12/01/2010 09:15

the buyer no matter where pays the postage which should always cover the correct amount of compensation and also provide a tracking number in case of a paypal dispute. Look on the royal mail website for the most appropriate option.
If you don't want bids from outside the UK you need to set your preferences to block bids from countries to which you don't post

KEAWYED · 12/01/2010 09:21

Thanks I've not sold massess of stuff before and never to anything of this value.

TBH it's been sat in the cupboard for years!!!

The Croatian bidder seemed odd because hes been a member for 3 year and has no feedback whatsoever and keeps putting erratic bids on.

I'll leave the one from Germany as well then.

DH gets laid off again on Friday so the money will come in very handy.

Best way KEAWYED for something SO expensive too. Glad it's good timing for you!

Carrotfly · 12/01/2010 11:31

I asked this same question some time ago, and the consensus was that rest of world selling is indeed fine.

I recently sold a pairr of shoes for £150 to an Italian. It cost about £15 to send insured recorded, so if the parcel was lost I would still hopefully have been covered.

All was fine, a very quick and smooth transaction, and MUCH less hassle than selling to some of the dodgy folk in the UK who seem to have cottoned onto the fact that its the easiest scam in the world to claim non receipt.

Good luck... and come back and tell us how much it went for !

MmeLindt · 12/01/2010 13:36

Oh, I did not know that about paypal. Sorry.

I have in the past paid for the recorded delivery when ordering more expensive items in UK.

whoopstheregoesmymerkin · 12/01/2010 16:12

I would say cancel if you can, I have had some awful experiences with Eastern Euro countries Dollars in envelopes (??), English COINS in home-made envelopes, cash that was several pounds short, all when I have asked for Sterling Paypal!

I generally only do UK now

KEAWYED · 12/01/2010 19:39

I emailed them last night then blocked them this morning.

I felt guilty for doing it. I definately need to toughen up.
