Seller Not sent correct postage method

I have a feeling that i won't get anywhere with the seller, but it's getting on my nerves this now as has happened a couple of times. Got charged £4 for 1st class postage (I accepted postal charges when I bought item obviously not trying to worm out of it!!!) but it was sent 2nd and cost just over £2 with recycled packaging. It just annoys me when people don't send it the method advertised, it's not even like they undercharged!!! Semms to be happening more and more.

Mark them right down on the star system.

I've had this quite a bit recently too, and it makes me Grr.

I asked for the difference between 1st and 2nd to be refunded to me, but no answer.

Still contemplating my feedback response.

It is annoying isn't it? i am going to contact them this weekend. Once when i had it happen before, she completely disagreed with me and said she HAD sent it first class. I told her I had the packaging there in front of me clearly showing 2nd, of which my husband had checked in case I really was losing the plot. She wouldn't have it at all that she had sent it that method and even suggested thet the PO had changed it after she had left

If you're not offered some sort of refund then I would leave neutral feedback and explain why.

Stephief · 01/01/2010 17:19

Surely the powers that be at ebay can do something about this? Surley when you pay postage you are buying that service, and if the seller isnt providing that service there is some recourse.

I would be well annoyed if I paid for first class and got second!

navyeyelasH · 01/01/2010 17:27

This has happened to me a few times - I contacted the seller and asked for the difference to be refunded (it's not much £ but it's the principle of it!).

Seller said no so I opened an item not ad described dispute asking for the refund of the difference and paypal agreed with me!

I then left neutral and low stars on the postage part.

I bought somrthing recently that had postage of £2.99 and when it came the actual cost was 61p. I queried it with the seller who quite openly said it was overpriced to avoid ebay fees but did offer to refund.
I've been too busy over Christmas to follow up after a brief look at the ebay complaints procedure I can't see how to report this - can anyone tell me where ro look ? Thanks

londonmackem · 01/01/2010 18:35

I always overcharge for postage partly so I am not out of pocket (worried my scales are not as accurate as PO) but also because you no longer have to pay a listing fee e-bay but they take 10% of total cost of item which is a lot more. However, I never say I am posting first class I just state the amount for postage.

maxybrown · 01/01/2010 20:05

Yes the point isn't really about overcharging, it is the fact they advertised and I paid for a service i didn't get. I know it may sound petty but it's bloody annoying! If I'd had the option to pay less for 2nd class then fair enough! It is actually against ebay rules to inculde your fees in the postage, you can report sellers for that.

londonmackem - as a geordie I'm obviously not going to agree with you but maxybrown is right about it being against the rules and on the odd occasion when I've sold something I thought it did make you specify which type of post you were going to use.

sixlostmonkeys · 02/01/2010 08:22

you paid for a service you didn't get so you can open a dispute (not as described) and ask for the difference to be refunded

mel1981 · 02/01/2010 21:34

I had the same happen to me- I won a item from but I hadnt received it after a while so emailed the buyer who made a (possible) excuse and said she would do it within next few days- still heard nothing so emailed again almost 3 wks after paying! She made a completely different excuse and posted it when I received it it was wrapped in a bin bag with 2nd class postage P&P was £2 cheaper. When I saw the clothes they were dirty .
I stupidly didnt complain as I desperately needed the item I brought (a coat for my buba and weather had just turned cold and he didnt have one).
The marks washed out. I left neg FB and really wish I didnt need the item so desperately so I could complain but I could tell she would be a pain to complain to by the way she spoke to me.
I need more guts!!! LOL
definately open a dispute- good luck.

Carrotfly · 03/01/2010 01:50

Fired up after a glass of the old vino I opened up a dispute, and ticked the postal issues box.

It appears that paypal do not get involved in this kind of dispute and recommend 'talking' to the seller to resolve this kind of issue

Guess its back to the feedback ratings then ...
