So, the nintendo console package I sold has gone missing in the post...

Sold for over £100 - and still not there 15 days after posting . I rang Royal Mail and they said it is considered lost after 15 working days from due arrival date so not time to claim yet.

Am I likely to have to refund? I have standard receipt but only shows that I sent a parcel, really.

Please don't tell me I should have recorded! Obviously, I should have.

Will it be me, as vendor, who is likely to lose out here?

Such a nightmare. That money was to fund Christmas!

Any thoughts gratefully received...

I'm afraid that if you did ordinary post, Royal Mail compensation only covers you up to something like £30 . I think you can claim from Royal Mail and get that, but will need to pay the buyer the full amount.

recorded wouldn't have been enough either. it would have to have been fully tracked for Paypal to cover you.

We got caught out with an item this year too. DH posted for me as mum is dying of lung cancer and I told the recipient.

As soon as she knew the item had been sent by standard post she put in a claim via Paypal. They have the right to do this, but she never contacted me again, never said she hadn't received the item, just said she wanted her money back because the item hadn't been sent as stated in the description. And we had to pay back £70 with no come back at all.

It's a tough lesson to learn and I feel for you. I wish DH hadn't been so helpful now, posting in time for Christmas. So much for helping out....

Gutted! Thanks for info. Lesson learnt. Why couldn't it have been a cheaper thing? I have never sent anything nearly so bloody expensive before.

If it is an item that cost more than the usual £30 don't even send it recorded you are not compensated any more money for that than standard postage.
Always always send special delivery and they will ask you how much it is worth for insurance etc.

It could still turn up I really have my fingers crossed for you.

ask them to contact their local sorting office and to ask the neighbours in case it was delivered to the wrong address. Tell them you will also contact their sorting office as well

i sent something first class recorded just before christmas and even though it has probably been caught up in the christmas post and i have proof of postage with a tracking number, paypal has just refunded them the full amount inc postage. i am never selling with e-bay and paypal again. i havent even had a reason why the buyer won the case.
