Wondering if anyone could help me out with a bit of a dummies guide for ebay...

I have a loft full of junk very useful items that I want to sell, but cannot re-live my childhood memories of 5am car boot sales. I have absolutly no idea on where to start with Ebay though, obviously go to the website would be a start , but after that? How much do you charge for postage? How do you package/send the items? How do you keep a track of everything, how does the feedback thing work... etc etc I really have no idea

Its quite easy really and you'll soon get the hang of it.

Postage - basically this is added to the price of the item eg if the winning bid was £10 then the price that the winner pays you is £10 plus postage so you need to know how much it will cost to send. Its quite usual to offer different rates eg standard first class or recorded - so you need to know how much it will cost you - so you don't end up out of pocket.

then list the item and wait for bids. Its often a good idea to set up a paypal account - www.paypal.com for the winner to pay into. You get the winners details emailed to you, name address etc. when they've paid, you sed the item, then they leave feedback on a number of factors.

Give it a try, you'll soon get the hang.

i'd recommend actually buying something first - that will give you an idea of how it works without you having the extra work involved in being a seller!

i've been an ebay buyer for about 5 years, but only plucked up the courage to sell my first item 2 weeks ago!

Use Royal Mail website for postage costs. Weigh the item on normal kitchen scales. Also on the item listing bit there is a postage calculator.

Packaging I use parcel bags bought in bulk on Ebay or you can use brown paper/recycle jiffy bags.

You track listing on Ebay so you can see if you have any watchers or bids.

Buyers don't always bother to leave feedback.

Once you get the hang of it, it really isn't difficult.

add the postage to your starting price or you may lose out

chickandduck Some categories are free postage only. Very annoying but you need to make sure start price covers postage. Trouble is then it isn't free to list.
