request to remove strike

I'm having a bad week with ebay!
Had a chargeback (now resolved) another parcel not received and now a customer requesting that I remove a strike.
The customer won an item of mine listed as an auction but won an identical item the day before from someone else (I've only just found this out). She didn't pay me and didn't contact me so after 6 days I emailed and said 'your parcel is packed and ready to go I'm just waiting for payment' She replied 'I no longer want the item' so I opened a dispute and she agreed and the case was closed and I got my fees back. I gave her an unpaid strike as she won my auction and didn't pay - that's what an unpaid strike is for isn't it?
I also left a negative comment (with a positive feedback as that is all you can do) I wasn't nasty I just put 'no payment received '
I think this is fair enough as sellers are pretty powerless these days.
Today she emailed and requested (politely) that I lift her strike. I checked her feedback - it's 100% (4) but that includes my positive (that was really a negative) and if you look further back in her feedback comments in 2008 she had 2 negatives when she won 2 auctions but didn't pay.
I really feel people like this deserve a negative or an unpaid strike.
Should I just ignore her email or politely reply explaining why I gave it?

i would ignore it to be honest and if she keeps mailing then say well its a legal obligation tom pay for item won you never contacted me you just didnt pay and then said you didnt want it so the strike is there for a reason and i will not remove it im sorry but you shouldn't buy and then not pay for an item

I'd either ignore it or reply simply stating that it is ebay that places the strike not you therefor there is nothing you can do about it

If you aren't going to remove the strike you should probably block her from your future auctions to avoid her buying something else and leaving you negative feedback. Unfortunately you can't stop her from getting someone else to bid and do the same.

I wouldn't remove it. She is at fault and the rules are clear on this. She was stupid enough to bid for two identical items at the same time without considering that she might win both. That's not your problem. Would just ignore the email, and block her from futher bidding.

maxybrown · 17/05/2009 19:07

No, sellers hardly have any rights anymore, but I wouldn't ignore her, that may fuel her! Although, be careful with the reply.

welshone51 · 18/05/2009 17:16

I think she was out of order especially by not initially contacting you when she won but did not want the item though she was quick enough to contact you when she received the strike- she has been caught out as obviously whenever you bid on something there is a chance that you will win it so why bid on 2 identical items.

This has led to you being inconvienienced therefore I believe you were correct in giving her the strike. It may be that as she is a recent buyer on ebay that she didnt know how it works though in my opinion its not exactly brain surgery.
You can ignore the email/ refuse to remove the strike though you have to take the chance that she will leave you negative feedback or you can write her a email to explain that you will remove it hoping she has learnt her lesson and wont try this again!!! I personally would leave the strike where it is!

OMG I have just done what I have been complaining about above!
I have just had to buy 2 books which were the same after forgetting that I had bid on 2, I just paid for both as It wasnt the sellers fault and will try to sell one- I cant believe it

Pingpong · 18/05/2009 20:53

Oh dear welshone51 !!!!
You have the right attitude though, just pay and sell it on. I bought an item the other day and it's a bit tight on me so I emailed the seller saying thanks it's great, I've left positive feedback but it doesn't fit me so I'll be selling it on.

I scrolled through all the unpaid strike stuff on the help menu and decided to reply politely saying that I had closely read the ebay policy on unpaid strikes and I could see no reason to remove the strike as she had won an auction and not paid for the item.

We'll see what happens now. I've blocked her from buying anything else from me (and a few other pesky ones while I was at it!)
