Please help postage to portugal

As far as I was concerned I did a uk only auction, stating that the postage charge was fro uk 2nd class postage.
Someone from portugal has won the item and wants it shipping to them for the price of 2nd class uk postage? I tried to explain that it was uk postage only and he has got really funny with me saying i have to post it NOW

What the hell do I do??

send him an invoice with the correct postage. If he doesn't pay simply file a non payment dispute.

for future listings set your preferences to block bids from countries you don't post to.

don't get into arguments with him on the messages, just stick to the facts

Thankyou,is it a case of going to the post office and asking>?

We are all stuck in with d&v so dont anticipate getting there toll monday, will he get cross about the length of time?

If your auction is a UK one and you didn't make a mistake when listing, cancel his bid and offer it to the next highest bidder.

Look on the royal mail website for the cost of posting and send him an invoice for the amount now. Put in the message (and email the same to him via ebay) that you will post once the full cost of postage has been paid and that, if he does not pay by Monday (depending on how long you are prepared to wait) you will cancel his bid and offer to the next highest bidder.

Either that or just cancel the bid and email to say UK only, sorry!

Thanks for all your help

I have looked at the auction page again and it clearly states that it is postage to uk, and send to the uk.
I dont think anything on the page indicates Im happy to send to portugal?

If I cancel the bid, what if he starts leaving nasty feedback, or can he not do that?

I don't think he can if you cancel it as he has no transaction with you IYSWIM. MAke sure you email him through Ebay with an outline of what has happened and your decision to stick to your listing stipulation of postage to UK only. This way, if he does go to Ebay they can see exactly what has happened. I doubt he will though, I have noticed a lot of overseas bidders seem to try this as most sellers seem to just give in once they have the sale!

Gravitygirl · 18/04/2009 08:44

Ok, I will do that. Although I can not seem to see a cancel bid option. Any hints as to where I might find that?

Oh, has he already paid? If he has you will need to return the payment first and it gets a bit more complex - I am not too sure on the procdure from there. I wuld guess you return the payment (which marks it as unpaid again in Ebay) and then you will be able to cancel the bid. However, I have never done it after payment so I am not totally sure!

Gravitygirl · 18/04/2009 09:32

No, not as far as Im aware, he has just requested the amount?

Ahh, that is good! Just click on the selling help and look for cancel bids. It shoukld take you through step by step!

KingCanuteIAm · 18/04/2009 09:46

TBH though, if he is requesting a total then that means he is asking you to let him know how much it will cost. If you reply to this with a total that includes that additional postage then you will get the full price bid for it IYSWIM. It doesn't take any extra real effort or time to send to somewhere like Portugal.

Gravitygirl · 18/04/2009 10:13

Oh I have already sent him an email saying I am not prepared to send it to portugal. Gah!!!
Oh well nevermind..
Will look at cancelling it now.

It is frustrating isnt it, mind you, my last foreign buyer gave me the opportunity to practise my use of BabelFish

notcitrus · 18/04/2009 23:00

I just got asked if I'd send an item to Portugal! I figure anyone asking pre-bid is probably OK.

I look here for airmail cost and add £3.70 for SignedFor: www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/content1?mediaId=53800712&catId=400036

Unless they've already won the auction when I round up my likely weight a bit as a numpty fee... so far no-one's argued when I email to say it was a UK auction and sending to wherever will be inconvenient, but I will send at a cost of £X.
