Cannot imagine how anyone can continue to sell their stuff when they introduce this.
Seems they squeezing out the small time sellers tbh

The categories we've selected are extremely competitive in the UK with online retailers increasingly offering free delivery. We believe this is the market price for P&P for those categories in the UK.
In which categories do I have to offer free P&P?
Your first domestic postage option must be free for these categories:

Clothes, Shoes & Accessories:
Women?s accessories
Men?s accessories
Boys? accessories
Girls? accessories

That's not clothes, though, that's accessories and shoe/clothing care, isn't it?

LizLemon · 16/04/2009 19:05

ebay doesn't seem viable for people wanting to clear out their attic a bit anymore - it just seems to be aimed at people who make a living at it. Shame.

Lilyloo · 16/04/2009 19:08

ahh i read it clothing .... and shoe care!!
Not as bad as i thought then.

'From 15th June sellers listing in selected categories in Video Games, Mobile & Home Phones, Consumer Electronics, Computing, Photography, and Clothes, Shoes & Accessories will be required to offer free P&P as their first domestic postage option.'

They seem to seperate it in this paragraph though.
Hope your right few items of clothing would be worth selling with free p+p.

Just got the same message but luckily I don't sell anything like those items. Last year I was selling so much more on ebay- It's not worth having a shop because the sales have slumped. I'm sick of the fees.

poopscoop · 16/04/2009 19:10

i think it will be back to boot fairs the, as by the time you pay to list, pay to sell and no p and p, you are pretty stuffed then.

Lilyloo · 16/04/2009 19:17

How does ebay compare with 'online retailers' who will be getting full market price for there items as they are likely new ??

It has swung so far for the buyers favour i think many sellers are disillusioned anyway this may be the final straw!!

Let's hope for a good summer if it's boot fairs!

I think they don't want people making money out of P&P. Afterall, lots of people sell items for 99p, with P&P at £5 which ebay doesn't (I don't think) take a % of.

pebbles79 · 16/04/2009 20:45

That means that the final value fees will take into account your postage too which is totally unfair on people that make no money on postage

HolyGuacamole · 16/04/2009 20:50

Half the time nowadays you can find stuff much cheaper elsewhere than on ebay if you shop around. I was looking for a game the other day and the cheapest on ebay was £27. I found it on play.com (and a few other sites) for £14. Ebay's not really a bargain anymore.

EachPeachPearMum · 16/04/2009 21:01

It's ridiculous.... this is supposed to make "selling fast and easy"? ... right
So how do you make any money on items that cost a lot to mail, as some accessories do?
People won't bid when prices start at 9.99 etc, not in clothing/acc unless its a designer item etc, particularly with children's accessories.

I do agree they need to clamp down on outrageous P&P- some sellers are just taking the mickey- but this isn't the way to do it. Royal Mail publish their mailing costs- sellers should be made to enter the weight of the parcel, and there should be a margin for packaging above that up to a maximum a seller can charge. eg- if by weight it costs 1.35, a seller should not be able to charge more than 1.95. That's the fair way to do it.

All these changes are against sellers... but it means the really good ones have left. Some of the dross that is on there now... it's very hard to find decent items on there compared with 2 or 3 years ago.

Tryharder · 17/04/2009 14:00

I agree to some extent EPPP, ebay should clamp down on outrageous P&P charges.

But I don't think all the decent items have gone. My items are still on there...

EachPeachPearMum · 17/04/2009 15:41

you know what I mean though... many small-fry sellers who had good quality items seem to have gone. Maybe it's just that baby clothes are better quality after use than older childrens' because they're worn less?
