Is there any way to check up on a buyer?

I am relatively new to ebay and have just had a query from a buyer. I sold a paid of boden girls trousers (age 3) and I said on the advert that the bottom of one leg was frayed. The buyer has contacted me to say its not frayed but has a hole and that there is one on the other leg too. She said she can mend it but asked for a £1 refund (she only paid £2 anyway).

I am upset that I sold something without a proper description and was looking on here for some ideas about how badly I have breached ebay etiquette. I found the post below and the description from Blametheparents about the message she had on selling a boden item was almost identical. I wondered if its the same person and they are a chancer. What do you think? Is there any way I can tell?

BTW, I have offered either the £1 or a full refund if she sends it back. I think that's fair and I don;t want an argunent but I really don't think there was anything wrong with the second leg. Is it bad to sell children's trousers with frayed hems? Its only because my DD is short and they were otherwise in very good condition and I think they were a good deal for £2 - its not as if I listed them as perfect.

Does her feedback look ok?

Regardless, I'd probably just give her £1 back and forget about it for a peaceful life. Can't believe how petty people can be, I mean what do they expect for two quid nowadays?

My sil sold something second hand on ebay 8 months ago (yes, 8 months) and the buyer asked for a refund last week as the thing apparently broke down. Cheek.

Hi there - thing is with trousers a frayed hem's going to end up a hole as it's on the fold iyswim! The only thing with used clothes is, unless item is in the exact same condition that it left the shop, is to try to be as gratingly accurate and detailed as possible when describing condition and faults. Hopefully this can cut then down on such probs. Even then it can be so down to personal opinion - as I recent found as a buyer (more used to selling) - one person's "only worn and washed a few times - actually about 20 times and slightly bobbly and in really good condition is another person's "Euuww bobbly as hell and only fit for the duster bag."

Take detailed close ups especially points of possible concern - free large pictures with image hosting sites - I did a fab one by pasting photobucket url into the item description bit so permenantly displayed on the listing. Also this may help back you up if you have a Paypal dispute from buyer.

Happy selling!!

Thanks. I posted a nice message apologising if she misunderstood me and offering her choice of her £1 off or a full refund and have heard nothing. I will do whichever she prefers and hope she's not mean about me. I don't think I did anytning wrong really.

Hi just wanted to say my advice above was slightly out as I've just gone to do it again - you can copy and paste the html code for a Photobucket image into the html screen of your item description to give you a lovely big picture.
