Apparently BN Item purchased smells very smoky - what to do?

I bought a dress from Boden on Ebay this week - listing stated that it was brand new, and it still had original packaging.

It's arrived today in the packaging, as stated, but it smells really badly of stale cigarette smoke. Other than that, it's as described.

I was going to wash it before wearing it, but it has wound me up that it's arrived like that and I wouldn't expect it to TBH.

Would you mention it in the feedback or leave it? Someone else has also commented on their item smelling this way it on the sellers feedback.

If listing says from a non-smoking household then contact the sellar and explain, if you get no joy leave a neutral with an explanation.

If it does not say non-smoking then you should really take this as a lesson that any listing from a ns home will say so, assume all other items will stink - just in case! In this case I would mention it but still leave a +ve.

I have had this a couple of times and have left positive feedback (as happy otherwise with items) but I did mention they smelt of smoke.

I never really thought of it like that. The seller is a Power Seller which is why it surprised me TBH.

Power seller just means they sell a lot quickly, they can still operate out of their garage/front room/local pub so the same ruels apply as with any other seller on there!

Ah, Okay, I got taken in by the 'Power Sellers are the pillars of the eBay community' blurb on the Power Seller description!

But surely every smoker realises that they do smell of smoke? I smoked for many years myself (have thankfully given up now) but I was never oblivious to the fact that I smelt of fags.

I didn't mean that smokers where'nt able to be pillars of the community, just to clear up any confusion.

Nope, they don't all realise how strong it is to a non-smoker. Having said that though, it is immaterial if the seller did not claim to be smoke free!

Just as an interesting point, I've heard that certain packaging products can leave a smoky smell. Might it have been the packing?

I've had Boden things brand new from Boden that smelt. Kind of charcoaly.

The packaging was just a plastic bag, which in itself doesn't smell. And it's definitely cigarette smoke. DH smokes like a trooper and even he says it honks!

I guess I'll just have to put up with it. As King said, it's kind of my own fault for not looking at the listing properly.
