Buy-It-Now price

Someone has emailed me about an item that ended unsold yesterday. She says she missed the end of the auction, had wanted to bid and would I accept a buy-it-now price. I replied asking her to make me an offer, which she has but it's quite a low offer. It's a child's Mamas and Papas rocking caterpillar that cost £50 and she has offered me £5!! It's going to cost £10 to post. I don't know whether to just accept £5 and be rid of it.

depends on how much you want it gone.

tbh, it might be for a lo's xmas pressie, maybe she's genuine and was hoping to get it for a song, how much was it started at?

Obviously you add postage on top. Get a courier for 7 quid.

You paid for it a while ago so i try not to get caught up in the "it cost x £'s"

Up to you really, personally I would relist it as, at this time of year, you should get more thant hat for it IMO

Also, there is something about insulting offers that make me want to decline on principle!

you could say you are relisting but if it is still unsold next week she can have it then for her offer of £5.

liahgen - You paid for it a while ago so i try not to get caught up in the "it cost x £'s" - this is true and I must try to remember that more often!!!

Which courier do you use for £7?

NCR - Good advice, I think I'll try that.

I'll think about it over the next few days and maybe re-list on the weekend.

I would definately relist i have just bought one for £20 they go for at least £15 usually.
Likely she will come back with a higher offer ?

MrsMagooo · 02/12/2008 11:28

I would relist!

Mine finished unsold too but was PUO so going to find packaging then relist with a courier

Relist it with a buy it now price that you are happy with, and email the potential buyer to say that you have done that as you felt that her offer was far too low.

If it didn't sell at all, then I don't think she was being that unreasonable to offer a fiver, as she could have bid and got it for whatever your starting bid was. Or your starting bid might have been too high if you were focussing on what it originally cost.
With £10 postage on top that means she has to pay £15.
The ones that go for more probably go to local bidders who come and pick up.
Make sure your pics and description are really good, and put the postage/courier as £7, and state local collection welcome or that you will deliver within x number of miles for xxpence a mile. Delivering larger items locally has got me a few sales that I think would otherwise have gone for less.
