It is a lovely dress but will need to be washed before wearing which defeats the point of buying new.

a good friend regularly passes on great clother for dd which have been beautifully laundered but friend and her dh both smoke so the clothes stink

The smell alaays goes away after one machine cycle with plenty detergent.

There is no way my friend realises the clothes smell.

dON'T LEAVE NEG. FEEDBACK BUT EMAIL THE SELLER TO LET THEM KNOW THE PROBLEM

twinsetandpearls · 30/11/2008 22:19

I know it is not personal and I did agonise before doing it, I can see how sellers feel edge I sell as well. But I think there is a huge difference between someone like me who sells a few items a month to raise extra funds and a professional seller who is selling items and making thousands. Although I did pay a fair amount of money I do not expect to pay £25 for something that is not fit for wear on arrival from a business.

But this seller has been told on numerous occasions that the clothes smell and each time she has replied saying the clothes do not smell and that the buyer must have it wrong.

do you want to name them

solidgoldbrass · 30/11/2008 22:28

Oh, this happens a lot, and I SGB am here to solve the mystery for you.

The seller doesn;t think it's a problem because he/she doesn't smoke and nor does anyone else in the house/warehouse. The smell is coming from the type of binbags in which the garments are being stored: there is a type of binbag that for some reason taints fabric with a smell that's quite a lot like tobacco smoke.

twinsetandpearls · 30/11/2008 22:37

No I don't want to name them that would be unfair.

It is not tainted it absolutely reeks, it was making me feel sick. Dp and I went out for lunch today and I was going to wear it, dp said he could not sit across the table and eat with the smell.

Have washed once and the smell has not come out have left it to soak.

Could that really be from bags SGB?

I know the binbags SGB means! I've done a 'double-take' once or twice when pulling one off the roll & making the kitchen instantly ponk of fags!

But, er, I wouldn't use them to wrap clothes which I was selling. (Or anything but rubbish tbh, they seriously stink). & if I did, & people kept mentioning the smell, I'd find something else to use.

Definitely YANBU to leave neutral feedback. If I was buying from this seller, I'd want to know this - I might still buy if something was a real bargain, then wash it, but 'will quite likely arrive smelling horrible' would be information I'd appreciate having...

brimfull · 02/12/2008 09:00

I think leaving neutral is perfectly reasonable.
Smoker or not, the seller needs to know her products stink on arrival and she should do something about it
.If everyone constantly leaves positive feedback when actually they don't particularly feel positive about it what is the point of feedback!
If the seller doesn't smoke then she would almost certainly advertise that and she doesn't.
