Oh bother! All my fault?

I recently sold a load of DH's sheet music (with his permission!). Lots of it was bought by just a few buyers in America. BEcause one man won 4 lots, and I couldn't weigh the music on my home scales, I packaged it in 2 parcels, so that I could weigh it and price the postage accurately. Stupidly, I didn't keep track of what was in each parcel, nor did the parcels align with the ebay lots - I just did 2 parcels with similar sized bits of music.

However, he has just emailed me to say taht some significant bits of music were not included. I'm pretty sure I remember packing them, but I can't be 100% certain, and I didn't keep a list. I did check as I did it though, and without those bits of music the parcels would have been pretty slim, so I'm really pretty sure they were in there. They're certainly not here at home.

What do I do? He says they're not there, I'm pretty sure they should be. If I refund him, that's over £50, including postage, but I can't see I have any choice if they're really not there. aaaggghh!

He does say that he got 2 parcels, so they both arrived, but he just says the things weren't in there. I don't know what to do!

Ask him to return all items for a full refund. If he recieved both parcels undamaged then there is no reason for the items not to be there surely.

No choice as you cannot know whether he is telling the truth or not. Up to him then if he decides to return.

Did he win all the items or did you send more than two parcels ?
Could you have sent the wrong parcel to someone else ?

Well if he returns everything, but he's not telling the truth, then presumably he wouldn't include the things that he says aren't there anyway?

I did send lots of parcels, so it is possible that I put them in somebody else's parcel. The only thing is that none of the others who've received their stuff have mentioned it (and these were big books so I think they woudl have noticed if I'd accidentally put them in there), and also his own parcel would have been easily small enough to be a single parcel if I'd forgotten to include this stuff.

It's my fault, isn't it, for not taking proper records of what I put in each parcel. I've got proof of postgae, but no proof of what was actually in each parcel posted.

Maybe mail your other buyers and ask them if they can check if they got any extra books ?

Nothing much else you can do but you are right he could keep the items and return the others to you.

What a nightmare!

ask him to tell you what exactly is in each parcel so that you can see if he has stuff that should have been sent to someone else. That way you could probably ask other buyers if they have received extra stuff. I'd ask your other buyers anyway - they may think they have got a freebie and buyers don't always say thank you for the freebie.
