the listing definitely says 'seller accepts returns'. The item is fine (it was a coat) but it longer than I expected. Probably my fault, I should have asked for measurements but when I saw that I thought I could return it. But my messages have been ignored. I guess I've just got to accept it and list myself, but what feedback to leave?

positive feedback.
the keyword here is 'expected' rather than stated.
An item can be returned for refund if it is not as described, and you are correct, you should have asked prior to bidding.

No excuse for them ignoring your messages though - they are probably trying to work out how to respond to you.

Surely you aren't going to give neg feedback item is as described in listing , if you wanted a specific length and it isn't in listing it's up to you to ask.

no, I wasn't planning on leaving neg feedback - that would be unfair, I just thought they'd have replied and said they only accepted returns if it's faulty. Is that usually the case with returns even if they say returns are accepted? On most listings I've seen it tends to say explicitly that you can't return.

As a seller I'd happily accept a return, but I'd deduct the postage costs for both despatch and return. Unless an item was faulty, of course, or not as described. Then I'd blush like mad and refund both lots of postage and wonder how I'd missed the fault/misdescription!

Most sellers are reasonable. If it's been a few days since you emailed, I'd try again and give it a few more days.

If you get no joy, why not relist it yourself?? Always an option

Personally, though, I think if a seller says they'll accept returns, I'd expect them to do this, for whatever reason - I'd just expect the recipient to pay the postage.

PS...if they're a business seller, which lots of people are, they HAVE to abide by the returns policy stipulated in the distance selling requirements accorind to new Ebay rules (unless I've misinterpreted them) so they should allow returns regardless.
