Ordered and paid via paypal (19th oct)for a coat for ds, its being sent from America although ordered on ebay uk.

I have mailed the seller twice just to checkif they sent it. They mailed me back today and said wait until end of mnext week and if not received then they will send me the mailing details to take up with MY Post Office. I have mailed them back and said I have already asked Postie (he seems to think would of well been here 10 wrking days) and that I am flagging up with ebay. I have sfilled dispute with paypal.
Has anyone got any advice, will i get my money back, I really want the coat as I ordered the hat in the same colour from another seller and have it here but no coat. so sad.
thanks

I often order craft items from America & they can be delivered anywhere from 5 working days to 20.

If it gets stopped at customs could take longer.

Have you checked with your local PO?

If it's still not here by Weds I would email the seller again & ask them to check with their PO stating you have checked with yours.

If still no joy &/or the seller is unhelpful then esculate to claim.

Unless the seller as any online tracking details that prove the item has been delievered to you then PP will refund your money.

MyPumpkinDsHappyHalloweenBday · 01/11/2008 14:13

Thanks mrs magooo, I have asked local postman who delivers here all the time. I have orderd before and it has come from USA in 5/8 days max, although it depends how long take to mail it.

I think because so much internet shopping is done its harder to track parcels. the postman said there is no way they can trace anything. A bit scary really as you could claim to mail it. I will have to wait then, really did want the coat tho. Luckly paid paypal, do they refund total cost with postage.

Why should you have to check with YOUR local Post Office??? Its got nothing whatsoever to do with them and they cannot do anything about it!

beaniescreamyb · 01/11/2008 14:37

I have been told the same thing. Bought something and paid on 9th oct (Within UK) with paypal. Contacted the seller who asked ME to check with MY postoffice. Waited a few days and then mailed back asking if they could let me know what kind of package I should be expecting and if they have sent it recorded delivery. no response. So I waited another 10 days and have now filed a dispute with paypal. I will get my money back but have to wait 14 days to see if the seller responds, so far nothing.

you will get your money back through raising a dispute with paypal but you will have to wait.

I think you need to wait a little longer for an item being shipped from the US. It can take 3 or 4 days, however 2 weeks is more the norm, and 3 or 4 weeks is not unusual, especially if its a bit bulky (like a coat) or if its caught in customs - both of which can slow things down. I know its cold and you are probably keen to get the coat, but I do think you need to give it a little longer to arrive.

As for the seller asking you to check with your post office, could it be that they mean for you to make sure that your sorting office are not holding the parcel for you, having tried to deliver it and you not being home? I know they are supposed to leave a card, but occasionally it is forgotten, lost, eaten by the dog/child/husband. I've had a few awol parcels in the past which have turned up at the sorting office. Your postie may not have seen the parcel as it could have come on his day off or on the van if its bulky.

It seems to me that the seller is being communicative and helpful. I honestly think you need to wait another week or two before you worry too much, and that you have been a bit premature raising a paypal claim.

MyPumpkinDsHappyHalloweenBday · 01/11/2008 16:46

Fair points Sarah,

The coat is more for xmas, ds already has good coat but getting bit little. so no dire need for it now. It cost £45 so therefore concerned if it has gone awol.

Postie will deliver to neighbour, many decent (friends) would take it in. Hopefully caught in customs and happy to get it next week.
Paypal leave for 20 days until seller replies so by that time i should hopefully get it, if not will have to wait until paypal decide forp.
pay u

DH ordered something from America, he thought he had been ripped off as it still hadn't come 3 weeks later...

it finally came 4 weeks after it had been POSTED!!

The guy had sent it straight away! The postie said there was a backlog!

Customs can be a HUGE nightmare, I have ha ditems held up there for weeks, you may get a letter soon from Royal Mail requesting you pay a customs charge and their handling fee as the item cost more than £18 it is liable for a customs charge and will be held until you pay it (hopefully it will slip through for you, but just be aware you may get hit for more money before it arrives with you )

guyFAwkesreQuiem · 02/11/2008 09:28

could be in the run up to Christmas is has been delayed in the post?? - agree with the others to say just hang on a little bit long.

MrsSanta · 02/11/2008 10:13

I hvae heard about the customs and delays, what about the charges. Why do I have to pay them and can you claim them back of the seller (silly question I know).

It seems unfair that you buy and them have to pay extra charges.

jenkel · 02/11/2008 10:23

You cant claim Custom charges back from the seller, you are importing something in to the country so have to pay, it may help if you ask the seller to mark the item as a gift on the customs declaration, rather than goods. It my experience is pure luck if you have to pay anything, think customs only stop a certain no of parcels. What really annoys me is not so much the customs charge, but the processing charge that parcelforce or whoever add on, cant remember how much it is but its a lot.

curlywurlycremeegg · 02/11/2008 10:48

You will have to pay the customs charge and unfortunatly the hefty Royal Mail Handling charge (£12 just for Royal Mail IIRC ) as jenkel states, just make sure you aren't charged VAT on the item. VAT is also a legal charge, however as it is an item of child's clothing it is exepmt. If it was an adult's coat you had bought you would have also been subjected to a VAT charge. I am frequently asked to mark customs stickers with the words "gift", however it is illegal and there are heafty fines for doing so if you are caught, so I say no. I agree it is very hit and miss as to whether an item gets picked up by customs, however I am finding more and more of the items I buy from the states are being picked up these days.

MrsSanta · 02/11/2008 10:52

thanks jenkel & curly lets hope it just delayed and not stopped then.
it is a child coat age 4, so at least i wont pay VAT. Do they open the parcel to see what it is.

curlywurlycremeegg · 02/11/2008 10:56

I have never had a parcel opened, but I would think they are perfectly entitled to do so if they were "concerned" about the contents, after part of their role is security IYKWIM

MrsSanta · 02/11/2008 11:02

I just had visions of the lovely new coat all ragged and ruined.

MrsSanta · 02/11/2008 11:03

I am the OP, namechanged after halloween.

MrsMagooo · 02/11/2008 11:19

If you get things marked as a gift it usually helps reduce the risk of the item get opened at customs.
