I won a buggy last night on ebay, I want to pick it up as its only 15 miles from me, but the seller said no

Anyway she said I have to pay via paypal and it will be posted. She only has 20 feedbacks (all postive) with one being a buggy she sold last month. I have been on goofbay and found out she has sold another one but has no feedback from the buyer, although she left feedback for them straight away.

Paypal will only cover me for £150 and I would lose the rest.

I haven't paid yet, and don't know what to do.

she is protecting herself from a paypal claim. Sounds like she is more afraid of YOU scamming her. If you pay by paypal, then collect, you could claim you didnt recieve the item & get your money back. She is just being cautious, as i would be

SparklyGothKat · 24/10/2008 13:45

but I want to pay cash lol! I understand about the paypal thing, but if I pay cash then i cant claim anyway. She seems to be a new seller, and I know ebay say to use paypal, maybe she is taking it seriously

she's just worried I think. You could turn round and say it was damaged etc.

I don't see why you can't paypal and collect though.

Moomin · 24/10/2008 13:48

I spose the thing is you bought it according to the conditions laid out in her terms when she advertised it. If you wanted to change those terms, you should have emailed her first to see what she felt about it. You've 'agreed' to those terms when you bid so you've got to keep your end of the bargain up now.

SparklyGothKat · 24/10/2008 13:49

did think about asking if I could collect and then paypal her while I am there IYKWIM. I have the money in paypal, but I have seen first hand a scam that lost my sister over £200

cant you paypal her and negotiate collection.

SparklyGothKat · 24/10/2008 13:52

I did explain to her my reasons for wanting to collect and pay cash. Am waiting for her reply.

SparklyGothKat · 24/10/2008 13:53

I don't mind paypal her and then having it posted, but I am worried that it won;t get sent and then I will lose money (properably completely being paranoid)

OP posts:
ScottishMummy · 24/10/2008 14:10

but that is the ebay leap of faith.you pay.hope it gets sent and arrives as described

sarah573 · 24/10/2008 14:58

I won't let people collect from me. The simple reason being that Im on my own with the kids and don't want strangers coming to my home. I always write no collections in my listings.

missjennipenni · 24/10/2008 16:43

If she has any sense, she WILL NOT accept paypal on a collection item! I hope she isnt stupid enough to do that

SparklyGothKat · 24/10/2008 16:56

what we have done, is I have transferred the money to my sisters paypal and she is doing it on her credit card so if its a scam then I can get my money back.

OP posts:
missjennipenni · 24/10/2008 18:05

you wont be covered by paypal doing it that way, but hopefully you will by the CC company

SparklyGothKat · 24/10/2008 21:09

its still through paypal, just funded on a credit card. The card gives me more protection than paypal (who only would refund £150)

OP posts:
missjennipenni · 25/10/2008 11:27

If you transfered money to her paypal account, wont paypal use those funds rather than her credit card?

bubblerock · 25/10/2008 11:39

I don't blame you for being cautious, have you seen THIS THREAD about a major buggy scam?

SparklyGothKat · 25/10/2008 11:55

I heard of that scam at the time. They made off with £13,500 in a month!! Thats whats made me worried tbh. I recieved an email today saying it would be posted today and they will send me the tracking number.
I am not sure how the credit card thing works, you can choose to use your CC instead of paypal.

lauraloola · 25/10/2008 13:24

Or, it could be that she is getting the money and buying the buggy online but getting it shipped to your address and making money.

We had this with radiators at the company I work for - Some guy put them on Ebay then when someone bought one put an order in but changed the delivery address to the Buyers!!

Maybe she is scamming you but at least if you pay on Paypal you can open a dispute.

theirmum · 27/10/2008 13:33

Ohh Sparkly what have you bought I am always a bit twitchy when it comes to spending over £150 but I have never had any problems

SparklyGothKat · 27/10/2008 17:21

SparklyGothKat · 27/10/2008 19:18
