I feel like a fool. I bought something really expensive on Ebay. I received it this morning and it's crap. It's a camera, it was described as mint condition but it definitely looks older to me. It smells of smoke although it was described as 'a demonstration model'
The worst of it is that all the photographs are 'soft'. I hired the same make camera a few weeks ago and each picture was super sharp.

Can I get my money back by saying that I 'think' it's older than they're saying and the pictures should be sharper.

It also came with a lot less stuff than they had listed would come with it.

Help please!

sorry i mean 'more used' rather than 'older'

With this make of camera you can't tell how many pictures it's taken although they've said less than 1000.

i have had this too from ebay emailed the sender and told them what i thought was wrong and said i would post a negative comment or report them to ebay, harsh i know but it worked and i had my money back by the end of the week good luck

quickdrawnandquartered · 16/10/2008 21:21

was yours a shop or an individual? I'm wondering if big sellers mind neg feedback as they have so many sales to keep up their feedback score.

OP posts:
quickdrawnandquartered · 16/10/2008 21:21

good to know it worked though. Did you have to send your item back to get the money?

shop, i think??? all negative responses have to be shown, bigger shops cant afford any negative feedback! had money re credited after emailing a copy of the post office receipt to say it had been sent back, you can always go via ebay, who will give you the money back after the sender has received the goods back, that way ebay has to fight with the sender to get there money back if that makes sense?

Lauriefairycake · 16/10/2008 21:29

I wouldn't bother at the moment with the newness of the camera just say that the package didn't arrive as described as there were bits missing and you would like a refund

And depending on response I would lodge a paypal claim to get your money back because there are bits missing

paddingtonbear1 · 16/10/2008 21:29

it sounds like it wasn't quite as described, that should be enough to email the seller and demand a refund. What was their feedback like?
With shops I always check the actual scores rather than the % - was tempted to buy something once, looked at the feedback and they had a lot of neg despite their % being 99.6!

quickdrawnandquartered · 16/10/2008 21:33

You're going to tell me it's my own fault if I tell you that their score was only 99.2 and that I did read the neg feedback and i was nervous and I bought it anyway.

I feel so DONE. Mind you, the neg feedback resulted in them getting their money refunded so I might be ok.

If I say bits were missing will they just tell me that they will send those bits on or should I try and prove that they camera isn't working as it should be. It cost (whispers) £950

holy shite you have to get your money back! i think if you pay by pay pal you can change your mind within 72 hours and get your money back without any questions? might be wrong....First say that you arent 100% happy with what you have been sold and ask for money back, if that doesnt work go into detail why ie missing parts, then if that fails contact ebay x

quickdrawnandquartered · 16/10/2008 21:39

so 72 hours from receiving the item?

Mad money I know, I'm still shaking about the whole thing.

OP posts:
Lauriefairycake · 16/10/2008 21:43

I would say that as there were bits missing you want to return it as you've already purchased a complete package elsewhere. Not that you have to justify it, just trying to get round them claiming they were going to send them on.

Any chance the camera is a fake? can you go to the place you hired the good one from and compare and ask them to advise you?

ilove · 16/10/2008 21:46

£950??? on a camera????????? Blimey what kind of camera costs a grand?

CarGirl · 16/10/2008 21:52

I would just state that the item is not as listed; it is incomplete and the picture image is not as sharp as it should be as you have used this model previously.

quickdrawnandquartered · 16/10/2008 21:54

No it's real alright, just not as described. The pictures weren't of the camera they sent me either. I brought it to a shop this pm and they said that it's not as sharp as it should be and to get my money back.
Wish me luck I'm going to send them an email now. Hopefully they'll get back to me as soon as possible.
I was going to say.....

I received the camera this morning and I'm sorry to say that I am not happy and would like to return in exchange for a full refund. The item was not as described in the following areas....blah....blah....blah.
The photos are also not sharp in the way they should be for the camera. I have tried it with a number of lenses and compared it with another camera of the same make and the photos on this camera are inferior. I brought it to a camera expert at a Canon retailer this afternoon and they told me it was an old camera and the focusing was faulty.
Please let me know when I can expect my refund if I send the camera back to you tomorrow.

what do you think?

OP posts:
quickdrawnandquartered · 16/10/2008 21:55

I know ilove but I'm a photographer so I will be making money from it.

OP posts:
blueshoes · 16/10/2008 21:56

Quickdrawn, as you are purchasing from a shop, you have 7 days to ask for 'no quibble' refund which they are legally obliged under distance selling regulations to grant. So don't feel you have to justify in great detail why you are unsatisfied or why the camera does not fit the description. Ask for a refund - it is your right.

I do think shops are concerned to get negative feedback, however large their feedback score. As a buyer, I check the actual number of negs they get in the last year and if high enough, read the actual feedback and response.

I think you will be alright.

quickdrawnandquartered · 16/10/2008 22:03

Thanks everyone. I've sent the email. Thankfully I didn't tell dh. He would kill me.

OP posts:
paddingtonbear1 · 16/10/2008 22:06

you are deffo entitled to your money back, you've been misled. just say you're not happy and are sending it back for a full refund. fingers crossed, it should be OK, you will get the money back!

quickdrawnandquartered · 16/10/2008 22:18
