Is this postage charge unreasonable?

I received an item - two weeks after paying - yesterday. I am happy with the item but it cots 3.09 to post and the seller charged me 8.00 no extra insurance etc. I think this is steep even with the plastic wrapping. Should I email her or put it down to experience? thanks

I presume you knew the postage costs before you bid? In which case I don't think you can really complain....sorry

Yes but to be fair I didn't know it would be so light. I always refeund people if the postage is way under actual cost.

some people that use ebay as a business also add labour costs for themselves to wrap it. cheeky but it happens

To get to our post office costs petrol and £1.00 minimum parking. Add in some packaging as well. Probably not £8.00 worth but presumably you factored that in when you bid.

If postage costs were stated when you bid then tbh it's not really fair to complain.

It is steep yes but if you weren't happy to pay that amount then you shouldn't have bid.

To get to our local post office requires a train journey (I don't drive) but I still only charge the actual cost of posting (I don't charge for packaging either) but sadly there are a lot of sellers who add extra cost for packaing, time, petrol, & to cover their fees - not fair but they get away with it

I have been known to make mistakes on postage as a seller. I'd suggest that you flag it up.

Worst case scenario, the seller says, tough...that's the postage quoted. On the other hand, it might be someone a bit dizzy, like myself, who would be mortified to find they'd overcharged to that degree!

I had to partially refund someone this week cos I'd charged £12, expecting the item to be heavier when wrapped and planning on using a courier. It cost £8 so I refunded £4.

I will charge 50p or a £1 even, to cover for packaging charges/labour etc...I consider that reasonable. Charging nearly £5 too much? That's outrageous!

I'm with squilly on this one
