Sold item almost a month ago - buyer just emailed to say not working - what should I do?

I sold a toy nearly a month ago, and before sending, as I stated in the listing, I put brand new batteries in it and fully tested all the functions. It was working then as it always had. I packed it well - lots of bubble wrap, strong box etc. Most of the cost was postage as quite large item. Buyer just emailed to say one of the functions is not working. If this is true, it has either happened in the post or in the 3.5 weeks they have had it before telling me! I do not want bad feedback - have 100% atm - so do they - but not sure what I should do. Any opinions/advice welcome. Certainly don't want to "diddle" anyone!! Neither do I want to be a "mug!

Haven't you left feedback for each other yet?

I'm sorry but this person contacts you after a month saying it's broken, they could have easily dropped it.

If something broke on me after a month I wouldn't go running back to the seller. If it was an expensive item then yes I could understand.

If they dispute this through paypal it will be refused.

I put a claim in for a broken buggy and got refused, so it looks like its on a case by case basis

What sort of prices are you talking about? What sort of toy is it? Is this function important to it or minimal?

Would the buyer be happy with a partial refund? May be the cheapest solution.

Thanks for all your advice. I left feedback immediately as paid via paypal. After 2 weeks of no feedback left for me, I emailed buyer mainly to ensure the item had been received. They emailed back to say it had but had not yet had a chance to test it but would do so that weekend then leave feedback but didn't. About a week later they emailed to say they could not get one of the main functions to work. I did say that it worked fine when I posted it & brand new batteries had been put it so I explained how it worked (I sent instructions anyway) but they still apparently can't get it going. The toy is useable (animal musical train) without this function but obviously being a train it should move! The item sold for only 99p - it has hardly been used - and is apx £30 new!!! but p&p was £8.50 as it is large.
