Help - what should i do

Hey,

I don't know what to do.
I bought a pram from ebay, it was a buy it now and collection only. The seller wanted it picked up asap, so i collected it when she asked. When i got there the pram was in great condition, looked clean and nice, the tires were flat though and the seller said it had been lying in her loft and they would need pumped up.
I went to a garage after collecting and pumped them up as i had to stay at mt pil's house to collect as it was near theirs. The next day the tires were flat again, so i used a handpump and by the time i had pushed it down my path they were down again.
I contacted the seller, and she was quite rude and said they were fine when she last used the pram, 4 YEARS AGO. She now denies saying it had been in her loft and i'd need to pump it up.
What should i do?

you need to get the inner tubes replaced, in fairness to the seller they have probably deteriorated over time rather than them being punctured IYSWIM.

MsPontipine · 01/07/2008 23:16

Hmmm odd that she didn't pump them up before you went. If they're pumpable they probably have an inner tube - know it's a pain but worth checking for punctures - puncture repair kits are about £1.

Any chance of replacing inner tubes? - just musing now! Annoying I know but if you're happy with the rest of it it's worhth it.

BTW what did you use at the garage???? Car air not suitable for bike tyres etc.

Leave her the feedback she deserves!

HollyandNoah · 01/07/2008 23:22

I don't know what was used, the man attending done it for me. But i used my quinny pump when i got home and they were full for about 5 mins, untill i put Noah's coat on, put him in and made it down my path, when i tried to turn at the bottom i realised they were flat again, because i couldnt turn.
I think i would prefer a refund, do i have the right to ask for one?

I don't think it's fair to ask for a refund for flat tyres.

Phneumatic tyres do deteriorate over time & if has been 4 years since she last used it then it's understandable that the inner tubes may need replacing.

You can pick them up cheap.

sixlostmonkeys · 02/07/2008 09:09

I can't understand why you would want to go to all the trouble (travel, staying at pil's, arranging convenient times, possibly having a long 'discussion'....) to get a refund when this problem can easily be fixed.

FourArms · 02/07/2008 10:42

I would ask for either a contribution towards the cost of replacing the inner tubes, or a refund if it was me.

I think it's fair to say that you would have bid less or not at all had the auction stated that the inner tubes would need replacing, so you do deserve compensation for this IMO.

Did you pay by cash or paypal?

HollyandNoah · 02/07/2008 11:39

I wouldn't have bid on it at all if i knew i needed to go get new tubes. i paid cash.
I wanted an inner facing seat, as mines only faces forward.
I only ordered it for quickness because we were going away and my pushchair faces out. I ended up having to go buy a sling when we got to where we were going because after the two hour drive the tires were too flat to push.
I politly addressed the problem and i got a cheeky reply, saying i was a liar. I then found she had left me + feedback:S
I asked her for something towards new tubes and she said no, SOOO i have asked for a refund. dun dun dun, she said yes. I've to drop it off at ten am on friday. good.
thank you

Some inner tubes would probably have set you back around a tenner for all of them. If I was the seller I'd have told you to sod off. Kudos to your lady for being so understanding.

MummyLovesPrams · 02/07/2008 11:56

I personally think that's awful - you're only talking about some inner tubes - you yourself stated that it was in excellent, clean condition. You saw the tyres were flat when you collected it so if you weren't happy you shouldn't have gone ahead.

What a lovely seller agreeing to give you a refund - she most definately deserves positive feedback for that.

cheesesarnie · 02/07/2008 12:09

i think the seller sounds very helpful and i wouldnt be suprised to see a post on here later saying about a problem buyer!inner tubes-thats all!can i ask how much you paid for pushchair?

HollyandNoah · 02/07/2008 12:46

really?
oh well, i thought it had proven more trouble than it was worth tbh.
I wouldnt have needed to pay £30 for a sling on the saturday if i hadn't left my buggy at home to collect and use that one.
i wasn't complaining about her + feedback, i was just confused about it.
I wouldnt have bidded on it if i knew ineeded to buy new tubes and i wouldnt have taken it if she hadn't said that they just needed pumped up.
the pushchair was £65 but including the hastle i dont think it was worth it.

Sounds like a very reasonable price to me (I regulary buy & sell prams/pushchairs) & I do think she deserves glowing feedback.

As a seller you can only leave positive feedback or no feedback at all so the fact that she has left you any feedback at all after being mucked about is very kind of her.

I don't understand why you paid £30 for a sling when you could have popped into almost any shop & bought some new inner tubes for about £10.

I wouldn't leave her neg, if i could, i have thanked her for being helpful - as i understand she has been.
I thought it was reasonable if it had been as described, but it wasn't.
I didn't know you could just buy inner tubes untill i posted here last night.
I do go into shops often, and havent seen them being sold anywhere, and the only shop i can nowthink they would be is in a bike shop.
I was in a seaside town with my ds, found a baby shop and bought the sling because at that point in time i thought it was a sling, a new buggy, or i carry him everywhere.

HollyandNoah · 02/07/2008 13:12

yeh, i am sure she did think they needed pumped up. but sadly that wasn't the case.

did you have good holiday though?

FourArms · 03/07/2008 06:41

I'm so surprised that you all think that H&N has behaved unreasonably. Maybe the seller didn't know that the inner tubes had perished, but the buyer certainly didn't, and bought the buggy in good faith.

If the seller wouldn't pay towards the inner tubes then I think the buyer should be entitled to a refund. So what if the buggy was clean etc, it was listed as being so. You'd expect a buggy in good clean condition to have working wheels surely?

BTW - I'm a regular ebay seller myself (1000+ feedback). Perhaps the seller thinks the buyer is trying to pull a fast one hence she won't offer a contribution to the inner tubes, but it's her loss as now she'll have to replace them and then relist the buggy.

HollyandNoah · 03/07/2008 11:13

I was a bit when i read everyones reaction, as i really didn't think i was being 'pathetic' in the least.

Ahh well! I wouldn't have imagined so many people being happy to recieve a buggy, that they bought, and not being able to use it because of faults unknown to them at time of purchase. But i guess there are a lot of patient, understanding buyers out there.

I always try and describe item as honest as possibly as a seller and expect the same when im buying.

It's sorted now anyway! AND yes cheesesarnie, i was only away one night, but it was nice, the weather was good - thank heavens - and it relaxing, except the buggy carry on at the start haha!
