Would you post out before echeque has cleared??

I had a buyer email me asking if I had sent item out yet that they had paid for, I replied back saying as they had paid by echeque I would have to wait for it to clear before posting the item, but that I would let them know on day of it clearing and dispatch the same day. Also let them know the expected clearing date shown on my paypal page.

I have now had an email saying I need the item for a wedding on the 12th (same date as cheque should clear), can guarantee you will be paid no matter what.

Don't know whether to take a risk and post it or hang on until cheque clears, which will mean item will arrive to late for event.

WWYD?

Depends on how much feedback they have and how much the cheque is for!

I have done it a few times but for items under £12 and for people with really high feedback.

You are in the right though, they should have sent a cheque or recorded cash if they wanted it for the 12th!

tricky, part of me says be trusting, the sensible part says she is trying it on, and that you could end up getting your fingers burnt. Is it a lot of money? Can she pay again via paypal and you can cancel cheque? Tbh i wouldnt send item as there are so many scammers out there. .

SoupDragon · 08/06/2008 09:54

No, I probably wouldn't.

cant they register a card and pay immediately? you can refund echeque if they want to do it that way. if its more then a couple of pounds i wouldnt

KaySamuels · 08/06/2008 09:57

The buyer has less than 30 feedbacks over 6 months all as a buyer, they are all positive.

The items is a pair of kids trousers, not a huge amount with postage but I am selling on ebay as I am seriously hard up so really don't want to chance losing out on any amount of money IYSWIM.

Just had a look it's about £4 with postage, will email her back and suggest she cancels echeque and pays with a straightforward payment so I can send it.

Don't send it - it's not worth the risk.

Love2bake · 08/06/2008 19:18

No - I always wait for it to clear.

KaySamuels · 08/06/2008 21:52

I emailed back and suggested they cancel echeque and send payment again so I can post it out in the morning, haven't had a reply. Also noticed they have bought something else from me to so just sent an invoice for that.

Grr.. hope they pay!

Thanks all for the advice, felt a bit tight not sending it but good to know I'm not alone being cautious.

Good for you. I hate it when people pay by echeque it slows the whole process down. Instant paypal is just so much easier.

KaySamuels · 08/06/2008 22:39

I hate echeques too!

NO - definately not, don't ever send until any cheque has cleared.

PixelHerder · 08/06/2008 23:16

Instant Paypal only works when the bank card you have registered with Paypal is valid.

If for example your bank card expires, and you don't log on and renew your new card's details with Paypal, they switch to the echeque method the next time you buy something. This entails requesting payment from your bank (which takes around 7-10 days) rather than debiting the card which is instant (like when you buy something from a shop).

A lot of people don't realise that their card details with Paypal aren't current as Paypal don't tell you - they just go straight to the echeque method.

Am just saying this as their echeque payment method may not have been 'deliberate' - this happened to me and I had no idea why until I did lots of googling of ebay forums.
