Royal Mail dumped parcel on step - now stolen

My eBay parcel - sent tracked 48 - was left on my step and subsequently stolen. The tracking clearly shows it on the step with the door closed. Annoyingly someone was at home at the time and they didn’t even bother ringing the bell. The Seller says that as it’s marked as delivered to my Safe Space (I would never designate that as my safe space as it clearly isn’t) I need to contact Royal Mail. I’ve check Royal Mail website which says that the seller needs to do this. I think they can claim compensation. Do I have any rights here? I can’t contact eBay for a few days.

Your contract is with the eBay seller, so yes they would have to contact Royal Mail. I would however call Royal Mail and log a complaint for “door stepping”, state you don’t have a designated safe place. They will give you a reference number for your complaint which you can give to the eBay seller.

Thanks. I have done this. Do you think eBay will side with me when I raise a not received issue?

It can go either way tbh, did you use PayPal to pay? If no joy with eBay go through them or your bank (used to work for RM and this is what I would advise if I had spoken to you for your complaint)

If the seller used eBay "Simple Delivery" eBay will cover the cost of any missing items with no cost to the seller.

"f an eBay Simple Delivery parcel is stolen after being marked as delivered, the buyer is likely protected by eBay's Money Back Guarantee and should open an "Item not received" case. The seller is generally not held liable for items lost or stolen after they've been successfully delivered, as per eBay's Simple Delivery terms. The buyer should provide evidence from the carrier (if available) that the item was not actually delivered to the collection point."

eBay Money Back Guarantee policy

eBay Money Back Guarantee covers most transactions on eBay. It means buyers can get their money back if an item didn't arrive, is faulty or damaged, or doesn't match the listing.

Morning,
Because it's been delivered I would say they might not side with you. Only saying this as I'm a seller on ebay and have had people claim they didn't receive their parcel in the past, when tracking showed delivered. EBay closed the cases in my favour. This last happened for a few years back now tho so things may have changed. It's definitely up to the seller to chase it up tho. Just have to see where you get with it.

I'm pretty sure it's the seller who has the contract with Royal Mail, so it's up to them to sort it.

I think it is reaching the point where we will all have to use lockers and codes. Even altering delivery times and asking for parcel to be left in a designated safe place seems not to work. Anything left in sight gets stolen, if my local neighbourhood WhatsApp group is anything to go by. I offered to receive a neighbour's parcel one afternoon last week. All organised on the company website and confirmed. By the evening it hadn't arrived - they had put it in her bin. A couple of weeks ago Royal mail put a card through my door saying sorry you weren't in, tried to deliver parcel. I was sitting in the front room, heard and saw them coming to the door - thought they were delivering the regular post. They didn't ring or knock. This level of incompetence makes it really easy for thieves. Then nobody wants to take responsibility.
